Manage an equipment repair shop, directing the maintenance and repair of equipment used for highway maintenance and construction and emergency operations. Schedule and direct activities of equipment repair technicians performing diagnosis, service, repair, inspection, and maintenance of a wide variety of vehicles and light, medium, and heavy duty equipment. Prioritizes equipment shop workload based on customer requirements, parts availability, and manpower. Outsources work when required to meet needs. Interfaces with MANCON and jointly works to ensure Integrated Supply Storeroom is stocked to support fleet maintenance and repair needs.
How you will contribute:
Administration and Accounting: Manage State Inspection process in accordance with Virginia State Police policies and regulations. Prepare work orders, records and reports on equipment received, assigned, transferred or salvaged. Monitor work orders to ensure proper posting of work requested and performed. Ensure work orders are appropriately updated when work is completed. Maintain records on equipment and personnel. Create requisitions for repairs and maintenance. Use towing and other related contracts as needed to accomplish work.
Emergency Operations: Prepare equipment for emergency operations and repair equipment, either in the shop or in the field, during emergency operations.
Inventory and Procurement: Maintain inventory of major tools kept in shop. Use private vendors to repair equipment when needed to avoid shop backlog. Maintain documentation related to competitive pricing inquiries and quality of vendor work. Ensure credit cards, purchase orders and contract purchases and services are posted and logs and invoices and submitted to Equipment Office. Maintain list of all overhead purchases.
Preventive Maintenance Program Oversight: Track equipment assigned to shop's primary repair location for preventive maintenance services and schedule PMs to be performed. Coordinates PM needs with work area supervision.
Safety and Hazard Prevention: Review and communicate safety procedures. Maintain Safety Data Sheet files and ensure SDS sheets are on file for all materials used in shop. Ensure shop is compliant with hazardous material regulations. Comply with VDOT's Spill Preventive Control and Countermeasures Plan.
Scheduling and Direction of Shop Operations: Schedule and direct work activities of shop personnel to ensure shop operations are customer friendly, tasks are accomplished according to industry standards, and downtime is minimal. Assure shop is sufficiently staffed during daily and emergency operations. Track work assignments to ensure timely completion and monitor shop costs.

Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
Ability to operate various types of equipment.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
Ability to prioritize and schedule work.
Ability to read and comprehend service and equipment repair manuals, gauges and testing devices.
Ability to research and evaluate data and prepare and maintain records and reports.
Considerable knowledge of the maintenance, inspection, and repair of vehicles and light, medium, and heavy-duty equipment.
Knowledge of federal and state environmental and safety regulations related to fleet management and general shop practices.
Knowledge of supervisory principles and policies with ability to supervise and train others.
Skill in procuring goods and services in a cost efficient manner.
Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
Skill in the use of hand and power tools, and advanced electronic and computerized diagnostic equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:

Skill in the use of computers, hand and power tools, and advanced electronic and computerized diagnostic equipment.
Additional Considerations:
A combination of training, experience, or education in Automotive Repair, Equipment Repair, Diagnostics, or related field desired.
ASE Master Medium or Heavy Truck and Master Automobile certifications desired.
Commercial Driver' License (CDL)
Experience repairing and maintaining automotive and construction equipment.
Experience supervising fleet equipment service and repair operations and staff.
