At MUFG Pension & Market Services (MPMS), we are seeking a visionary and experienced Director of AI & Data to lead the strategic vision, delivery, and governance of Artificial Intelligence and Data initiatives. 

About the Role

As the Director of AI & Data, you will spearhead our digital evolution by architecting an enterprise-wide AI strategy and building an exceptional team to execute it. This transformative leadership role demands a rare combination of technical expertise and organizational vision - you'll not only design cutting-edge solutions but also build governance frameworks, and cross-functional partnerships needed to sustain innovation.

Working at the intersection of business and technology, you'll collaborate with executive leadership, operational teams, and strategic vendors to embed AI as a trusted competitive advantage across the organisation. Your solutions will deliver measurable value - optimizing operations, personalizing customer experiences, and unlocking new opportunities - while maintaining rigorous adherence to regulatory, ethical, and organizational standards.

This is a highly visible executive leadership role accountable and responsible to

  • Shape and execute a cutting-edge AI strategy aligned with business goals and regulatory standards
  • Lead enterprise-wide AI initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, customer experience, and risk management
  • Oversee data governance, platform strategy, and drive advanced analytics, data science, and business intelligence capabilities aligned to strategic priorities
  • Partner with business, tech, legal, and risk teams to embed AI as a trusted, value-adding capability and to convert AI and data opportunities into commercial and service outcomes. 
  • Advise the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on AI and data strategy, governance, and innovation
  • Build and nurture a community of practice across technology, data, and business to foster AI awareness and adoption along with building high-performing teams while driving organisational change and innovation
  • Ensure AI solutions meet ethical principles and manage AI risk assessments and model validations to ensure algorithm integrity and compliance with global and local regulations (e.g., APRA, GDPR).

What You Bring

  • 10+ years’ experience leading AI, data, or analytics functions within financial services or regulated industries at senior leadership level.
  • Proven expertise in leading strategic initiatives, managing operations, and implementing governance frameworks and delivering scalable Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) solutions with measurable business impact
  • Deep expertise in data governance, privacy law, and AI ethics
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and modern data tools, understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) technologies, data architectures.
  • Demonstrated experience to set a long-term vision and roadmap for AI and data in line with business strategy and understanding of regulatory obligations and ethical considerations in AI and data use.
  • Skilled influencer and communicator with the ability to engage across all levels of the organisation
  • Proven capability to lead teams, influence executives, and drive organisational change
  • Strategic visionary with a passion for innovation and responsible AI use
