GAI Consultants is currently looking for an Assistant Environmental Specialist 1 to join the team. The Environmental Specialist’s primary work responsibility will be to conduct documentation of environmental resources for energy-related projects and associated regulatory permitting tasks but also provide support for storm water and other regulated waters compliance monitoring field assessments including erosion and sediment control inspection and storm water pollution prevention plan modification determination but may be tasked to assist on other environmental projects as needed. The individual will assist in the compilation of data and preparation of weekly reports and applicable permitting documents as directed by Task Managers and Project Managers.

Essential Duties:

· Complete construction inspections, erosion control monitoring, and environmental marking and staking

· Assist with field data collection and wetland delineations

· Gain knowledge of regulatory requirements and complete basic regulatory agency applications

· Receive technical training for career enhancement

· Other duties as assigned.

Experience Required

· 1-2 years of experience commensurate with environmental consulting practices with a background in environmental science, ecology, or construction inspection services.

· Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

· Must have the ability to function well within a multi-disciplinary work team.

· Work is expected to be approximately 90% field-based work and 10% office-based work. Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime.

· Must be able to travel and work out of the office, including possible overnight trips. In-state travel is a requirement, and extended field assignments are possible. There may also be up to 15% out-of-state travel associated with this position on a project-specific basis or to assist other offices.

· To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge and use of GPS tools.

Experience Preferred

· Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

· Knowledge and experience with erosion and sedimentation control monitoring and construction inspections on linear projects.

· Basic familiarity with the use of GPS tools.

Physical Requirements

· The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, or smell.

· The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.

· The employee must wear Personal Protective Equipment, including a hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, etc.

· The work environment will include indoor and outdoor settings.

· The employee must hike moderate distances through unimproved terrain, utility rights-of-way, in remote areas, etc.

  • Shows progress in acquiring basic skills; follows procedures; learns record keeping protocols general topographic and arial photograph reading experience, learns technical literature basics, available for frequent travel and field work.

Minimum Years of Experience

  • 1 to 2 Years of Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences or similar field of study

Technical Responsibilities

  • Introduction to ecological field data collection, wetland delineations, basic regulatory agency applications, gains knowledge of regulatory requirements, and other duties as required; receives technical training for career enhancement

Project and Task Management

  • Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.

Management Responsibility

  • Close supervision on all work assignments.
  • No managerial responsibilities at this level.

Communication Skills

  • Possesses basic oral and written communication skills. Identifies and acknowledges principles of teamwork and leadership.
  • Interacts primarily with internal project team members
