POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Assistant Pharmacy Manager is responsible for assisting the Pharmacy Manager in managing the daily operations of the Equitas Health Pharmacy; the management of supporting pharmacy staff; patient recruitment and retention with an emphasis on patients of the Equitas Health and other 340B contracted providers; relationships with Equitas Health providers and other local providers; maintaining compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements of pharmacy practice; ensuring adherence with DME and specialty pharmacy accreditation standards within daily operations. The assistant pharmacy manager is to provide clinical services, such as continuing the development and implementation of the medication adherence program and patient management program.

The Pharmacy Assistant Manager reports directly to their location’s Pharmacy Manager, and acts as an integral leader of Equitas Health working to assure financial planning, strategic planning, fundraising, administration and advocacy.

SALARY: $105,600-$132,000

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, traveling, driving or having reliable transportation; written communication; relationship building with local providers, vendors and community partners; supervising and training staff; utilizing a computer for typing, processing and conducting research; attending meetings; and presenting to small and large groups.  The Assistant Pharmacy Manager utilizes working knowledge and understanding of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy practice standards to deliver outstanding pharmaceutical care to patients and providers; verifies accuracy of prescriptions processed and/or filled by other pharmacy employees to ensure safety and optimal patient outcomes.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in management of daily operations of the Equitas Health Pharmacy, while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local government laws and regulations, as well as DME and specialty pharmacy accreditation standards
  • Assure compliance with all Equitas Health Pharmacy service delivery standards
  • Provide superior customer service to patients, providers, community members, other employees and referral sources.
  • Facilitate management of the pharmacy with the Pharmacy Manager and Director of Pharmacy Services. Tasks included, but are not limited to assisting in the management of pharmacy technicians and interns  , input into the management of Equitas Health’s 340B program and formulary, checking prescriptions for accuracy and clinical appropriateness, providing insight and implementation of services that create a high level of patient satisfaction, and working with the other pharmacists to assure maximal financial success of the Equitas Health Pharmacy within its vision.
  • Coordinate with the Pharmacy Manager to manage Equitas Health Pharmacy inventory systems to assure acquisition of medications, appropriate control, dispensing of medications, and reconciliation in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Equitas Health providers and staff to optimize health outcomes for medical patients.
  • Provides consultation to patients to ensure their understanding of therapeutic regimens and specifics of administration, potential side effects, allergic precautions, etc.
  • Utilizes skills and experience to effectively deliver specialized pharmaceutical therapy and services, including adherence programs, specialty disease management, immunization services, and the specialty patient management program.
  • Collaborate with case managers, behavioral health therapists, and any other supporting staff to ensure the access to, and continual adherence to all patients’ medication regimens.
  • Understand and provided guidance on all necessary patient assistance services to ensure patients’ access to prescribed medications.
  • Assist with interviewing, hiring , and training new employees
  • Marketing the pharmacy clinical services to all medical offices and patients within the service area.
  • Promote Equitas Health as a collaborator for excellence in HIV care, PrEP and PEP services, LGBT specific care and other specialty care services.
  • Work with the pharmacist team to build in-pharmacy clinical services, to increase health outcomes of patients and new patient referrals in a cost effective manner.
  • Work with other Equitas Health departments to help patients utilize other services to optimize their health and wellbeing.
  • Actively participate in and promote the Equitas Health Pharmacy quality initiatives.
  • Work with the pharmacy students to build strong long-term relationships and consistent referrals.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Director of Pharmacy Services or Chief Pharmacy Officer.
  • Any other responsibilities as defined in the Equitas Health Pharmacy Operations Manual.


EDUCATION/LICENSURE:

  • BS in Pharmacy or PharmD. degree or equivalent FPGEC (NABP)
  • Unrestricted Ohio license to practice pharmacy that is in good standing allowing for the dispensing of medications is required.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Qualifications
:

  • Two years of experience working as a practicing pharmacist required
  • Three to five years of supervisory experience preferred
  • PGYI residency preferred
  • Past retail and specialty pharmacy experience preferred
  • Past experience working with a 340B program preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of pharmacy operations and evaluation with experience and commitment to statewide programming.
  • Possesses or willing to obtain education, accreditation, licensure and certification, as necessary, to provide the pharmaceutical care and services delivered by Equitas Health Pharmacy, including Medication Therapy Management, consultation in specific disease states, patient management program services and administration of injectable agents and  immunizations, as necessary
  • Knowledge of health and social service needs of persons with HIV/AIDS and/or other specialty disease states.
  • Must have sensitivity to, interest in and competence in cultural differences, HIV/AIDS, minority health, sexual practices, chemical dependency and a demonstrated competence in working with persons of color, and gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender community. 

 

  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and other computer applications required. 
  • Reliable transportation, driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.
