The Computer Science Teacher at Lansing Technical High School will lead a comprehensive 9–12 program focused on computer science, coding, and information technology, integrating CTE content with core academics and real-world applications. This role involves designing and delivering a four-year program of study aligned with state CTE standards and industry certifications, utilizing project-based learning, culturally relevant instruction, and employability skill development. The teacher will prepare students for certifications and dual credit opportunities, manage classroom technology, and foster partnerships with industry, higher education, and the community. Responsibilities include collaborating with staff and advisory committees, supervising student participation in CTSOs, supporting work-based learning experiences, and contributing to school-wide marketing and recruitment initiatives to promote CTE opportunities.

Qualifications
- A valid Michigan Professional teaching certificate, a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with CTE Endorsement, or an industry credential that qualifies for Annual Career Authorization through the Lansing School District.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
- At least five (5) years successful teaching or training experience and demonstrated leadership experience.
- Successful and positive experience working with high school age students and diverse student populations.
- Background in fundamentals of computer science and coding.
- Experience in Informational Technology (IT) and programming languages such as HTML, Python, CSS, and JavaScript.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA ITF+/A+, Microsoft Technology Associate, CIW, Adobe, etc.).
- Experience teaching high school students.
- Experience with curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment in a CTE context.
- Experience managing a lab or technology-based classroom.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver instruction aligned to state CTE standards, district curriculum, and industry certification requirements
- Design a 4-year Computer Science and Coding program of study (POS). The POS will integrate CTE content and instructional strategies across core subjects, non-core subjects, enrichment, extracurricular, and family learning experiences.
- Create a classroom environment that promotes student learning, critical thinking, and the application of computer science principles.
- Provide theme-based instruction to students in grades 9-12, engaging them in culturally relevant and industry specific learning experiences.
- Integrate employability and 21st-century skills including teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
- Utilize project-based learning, real-world scenarios, and simulations to reinforce instruction.
- Prepare students for relevant industry-recognized certifications and/or dual credit opportunities.
- Collaborate with CTE department staff, academic teachers, counselors, and community partners to enhance program relevance and opportunities.
- Conduct business advisory committee meetings.
- Maintain and manage classroom technology, hardware, and software tools.
- Supervise student participation in CTSOs (e.g., SkillsUSA, TSA, FBLA) and competitions.
- Support career exploration, internship, and work-based learning opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.
- Participate in professional development and stay current with technology and computer science trends.
- Enforce school policies and procedures; ensure compliance with safety regulations in the classroom.
- Assist Lansing Technical High School administration and staff in establishing and implementing a school-wide public relations, marketing, and recruiting program that promotes CTE and targets potential enrollees (including Open House programs, promotional campaigns, individual and group demonstrations, and information sessions).
- Assist the Lansing Technical High School administration and staff in developing and strengthening relationships with industry partners, institutions of higher education, and community leaders.
