Community Solutions is seeking a full-time Emerging Adults Therapist/Practitioner to join our team at our Towson, MD program, supporting Baltimore County. This individual will be responsible for providing community-based treatment for Emerging Adults (ages 17-21) with complex clinical, social and educational problems. Over a period of 6-12 months services are delivered in homes, neighborhoods, schools and communities and the emphasis is on promoting behavioral change in the Emerging Adult’s natural environment. This individual will provide interventional support, seeking to promote the Emerging Adult’s capacity to function in their natural environment, which includes leveraging their strengths and developing skills to overcome barriers.  This role is community-based and would require travel within a 90-minute radius from our Towson, MD office, supporting the surrounding counties.

What is Emerging Adult (EA) Therapy?  

A clinical adaptation of Multi-Systemic Therapy, MST-EA is a promising practice that provides intensive individual treatment for transition age youth (ages 17-26) with both a recent history of criminal involvement and mental health challenges. MST-EA is delivered in the community (clients' homes, schools, neighborhoods) to ensure ecological validity and treatment generalization, occurs with a high level of intensity and frequency and incorporates treatment interventions that are strongly supported and informed by research, and places a high premium on approaching each client/family as unique. What You'll Do:         

  • Mediate and resolve problems that arise with the emerging adult and handle all emergency situations in a calm manner in accordance with Agency policies and procedures as needed.  

  • Monitor client behavior and implement Agency behavior management procedures as needed.  

  • Possess knowledge of and adherence to standards of confidentiality, and if applicable Department of Public Health and Addiction Services regulations, Title XIX, CHAMPUS, Medicare/Medicaid and Managed Care requirements that pertain to Agency programs and client.  Provide directions for staff related to mental health issues as requested.  

  • Conduct program specific assessment including review of referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, identifying systemic strengths and weaknesses, and developing an analysis of the fit of problem behaviors within the ecological context.  

  • Engage Emerging Adult and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement.  

  • Facilitate home- and community-based treatment with clients 3-4 times per week as determined by the MST-EA Supervisor and Consultant. 

  • Oversee client progress and ensure proper discharge planning and documentation of incident reports.  

  • Implement a problem conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention implementation, outcome review and strategy revision procedure using the program specific Analytic Process.  

  • Maintain clear and concise documentation of treatment efforts that promote peer and supervisory review and feedback, and that demonstrate compliance with program specific Principles and the program specific Analytic Process.  

  • Collaborate with all relevant systems and key participants within each system to ensure their buy-in and cooperation throughout treatment.  

  • Maintain frequent communication with referral sources and provide weekly client progress reports as well as final discharge summaries. 

  • Provide direct clinical treatment using methods compatible with program specific principles and practices.  

  • Attend weekly clinical supervision and clinical consultation.  

  • Participate in all trainings, including the initial MST-EA training, bi-annual booster trainings, clinical in-services, and agency and funder required trainings.  

  • Carry cell phone and participate in 24/7 on-call system.  

  • Complete data for program Client Management System.  

  • Expected to complete over 75% of cases with 75% of goals met.  

  • Ensure collection of urine samples and complete related paperwork and breathalyzer testing as required by contract.  

  • Complete a Therapist/Counselor Field Visit “Before and After” form and attend one home visit with Clinical Supervisor per month.  

  • Provide Clinical Supervisor and consultant with at least one audiotape of a home visit per month.  

  • Increase treatment responsibilities as determined necessary for program needs and as qualified to do so by the Program Director or Clinical Supervisor.  

  • Maintain a working knowledge of and abide by the Agency’s programs, policies, and procedures.  

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.  

Annual Salary: $60,000-65,000 

 

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:  

  • A Master’s degree in Social Services or related field, plus one (1) year of work experience in social work or clinical treatment.   

  • Social Work or other related clinical licensure as required by contract (e.g. LMSW, LCSW-C, LGPC, LCPC).   

  • Consistently adheres to model fidelity regarding clinical practice.   

  • Experience with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy   

  • Possess knowledge of and adherence to standards of confidentiality, and if applicable Department of Public Health and Addiction Services regulations, Title XIX, CHAMPUS, Medicare/Medicaid and Managed Care.   

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.   

  • Experience with Microsoft Office.   

  Preferred Experience:    

  • Two (2) years of work experience in social work or clinical treatment.    

  • Experience with population.   

  • Experience with Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.   

  • Individual therapy with Emerging Adults using cognitive behavioral techniques.   

  • Behavioral therapy targeting school behavior and academic performance.   

  • Implementation of interventions within or between systems in the Emerging Adult natural ecology that affect or influence the behavior of youth (i.e. family, peer, school, and neighborhood).
