Position Summary: The Sourcing Specialist will use sourcing knowledge and relationship building skills to develop the supply strategy for key categories within manufactured home building. The Commodity Manager will get the opportunity to demonstrate strategic thinking and effective communication capabilities by partnering with manufacturing teams in creating a 5-year strategic roadmap that 1) builds supplier partnerships, 2) maintains supply against external challenges, 3) and controls inventory & cost. The Commodity Manager will have the opportunity to network closely with the wider Supply organization, Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing Materials teams to ensure alignment of strategic direction of direct material supply.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within the design, engineering and materials management teams to develop long-term direct material category strategy
  • Align the roadmap and ensure a diversified portfolio of suppliers with capabilities to meet all business objectives
  • Identification of potential supply risk and development of mitigating strategies
  • Influence supplier selection for all new products/designs by teaming up with engineering / design team at start of new product conception
  • Manage the approved vendor list for category spend and communicate throughout the organization most preferred / least preferred suppliers
  • Ensure a competitive sourcing environment by driving efforts for dual qualification of supply, routinely quoting incumbent spend, and working with sites to ensure suppliers are routinely challenged on cost
  • Negotiate best in class long term supply contracts
  • Interface with cross functional teams to assess current and future sourcing needs in terms of technology, cost, and mfg. location / lead-time
  • Deliver periodic executive business review of category (5-year plan) focusing on overall strategy, industry landscape, supplier capabilities, performance, and technical roadmaps
  • Manage overall supplier relationships for top suppliers in category
  • Maintain working knowledge of market trends, key drivers of supply conditions, and cost structure along with any technology shifts ongoing
  • Travel to supplier manufacturing locations to assess “ground conditions”, foster healthy working relationships, and deliver key messages to supplier leadership
  • Work across global time zones to build and execute commodity strategies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration or similar field
  • 5+ years direct materials sourcing experience (preferably in manufacturing)
  • Direct knowledge of developing and executing a strategic sourcing roadmap/strategy.
  • Supply chain management professional certifications (CPM, CPSM, CIRM, CPIM) preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Cost reduction project leadership experience
  • Technical acumen / understanding of commodity management and ability to quickly learn products and industry
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-cultural suppliers on technical and logistics issues
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, and superior follow-up and follow-through skills
  • Team player and influencing skills required to establish and sustain a lean culture
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Independently driven problem solver with appetite to address complex challenges in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong business acumen and experience collaborating across various levels within a diverse, global organization

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to consistently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as telephone, calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc.
  • Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, and in person. Must be able to exchange accurate information with others.
  • Constantly works in an indoor, temperature-controlled, sealed-window office environment.
  • Work primarily involves sitting / standing.
