This is a 40hr./week position including travel within the enterprise.
Pay Range
$66.85 - $100.30Major Responsibilities:
- Responsible to assure all safety requirements, regulations and contractual requirements are maintained, supporting all Clinical, Clinical Support, Research and Academic programs for the region. Directs development and implements environmental safety strategies and action plans that ensure corporate sustainability
- Oversee proper handling, storage, documenting, inspecting, and transportation of hazardous waste/materials within research facilities.
- Assist with emergency response situations including hazardous material spills.
- Promotes standards of excellence through teamwork, caring, integrity, respectful communication, and maintenance of a safe and professional environment. Provide leadership guidance and direction to the Corporate Safety Environmental Compliance Staff.
- Collaborate with leadership across the continuum to direct the development, planning and implementation of Atrium Health’s environmental safety programs, policies and procedures related to federal, state, and local regulations Develop, maintain, and apply industry leading expertise in environmental management aspect to ensure compliance with applicable environmental law and regulations.
- Coordinate aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, sustainability, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy as it pertains to environmental compliance. Develop Environmental Compliance metrics that will indicate the effectiveness of the program.
- Direct auditing, analyzing and reporting environmental performances for Leadership and regulatory agencies. Direct impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the organization’s environmental risks and financial costs.
- Promote and raise awareness, at all levels of the organization, of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice. accountable for delivering quality information and recommendations in a timely manner to assist all management levels in decision making situations to minimize risk and exposure to the organization.
- Partners with supply chain leaders to contribute to the development of responsible supply chain policy, strategies, and action plans in an integrated AAH system-wide approach.
- Develop educational materials and program to support each site’s efforts in assuring employee health and wellness
- Designs and directs the work of the assigned area(s) of responsibility. Selects, coaches, and develops teams, setting objectives that align with organizational strategy to inspire and motivate the teams. Manages organizational talent through performance management, succession planning, and development. Designs and directs processes by which team and individual performance are recognized, feedback is consistently delivered, and performance is systematically improved.
- Develops and/or recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
- Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that people actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- None
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related field required Safety Management, Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance or related degree or equivalent experience.
Experience Required:
- Seven (7) years or more+ of experience in safety and/or facilities management that includes experience in emergency management, environmental safety, and life safety. Includes three (3) years of management experience in the management of staff, budgets, and multiple facilities operations functions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Familiarity with regulatory agency code requirements, and the progressive application of this standards, including, “Physical Environment” NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, National Institute of Health, Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories, EPA, and OSHA requirements for General and Construction Industries preferred.
- Must have the ability to clearly communicate verbally, in person, and in writing with patients, families/agencies and the health care team.
- Must possess a strong sense of urgency and make sound decisions.
- Must be a critical thinker, have ability to solve problems, and is solution oriented.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills with demonstration of skill and competence in use of all Microsoft Office applications required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- This position requires travel, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
- Exposed to a normal office environment.
- Must be able to carry up to 25 pounds of material and various types of equipment.
- Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Master degree in Safety or related field required Safety Management, Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance or related degree or equivalent experience.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Health Care Environmental Manager (HEM) Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), or other related industry certifications highly preferred
- 10 years of related experience. Two years of supervisory experience preferred.
