What You’ll Be Doing | Mō te Tūranga

As our Lead Service & Reliability Engineer you'll play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of AA's software systems and services. You’ll lead a team of skilled SREs, working closely with both development and operations teams to embed best practices, drive automation, and enhance observability.

Your mission is to proactively manage the health of our systems, reduce downtime, and continuously improve our platforms to support business growth and customer trust.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Define and manage Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) to drive accountability and reliability.
  • Build and maintain automation tools for deployment, scaling, and monitoring.
  • Promote and instill a culture of reliability engineering and operational excellence across the tech organization.
  • Oversee and continuously improve monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems to detect and resolve issues proactively.
  • Lead Post-Incident Reviews (PIRs) to identify root causes and drive preventative measures.
  • Ensure systems adhere to security, compliance, and resilience standards.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and performance tuning across services.

About You | Mōu

You’re a seasoned technical leader with a strong foundation in SRE, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering. You bring both people and systems expertise ,  knowing when to lead from the front and when to support from behind.

You’ll bring:

  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor and grow high-performing technical teams.
  • 7+ years in SRE, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering roles.
  • Hands-on experience with scripting and automation across multiple languages (e.g., Python, Bash, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog), and modern observability practices.
  • Strong grasp of DevOps principles, incident management, and resilience engineering.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience working in Agile and Waterfall environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Systems, Software Engineering, or related field.
