Position Summary:
The Fortune Society’s Behavioral Health (BH) division, which includes treatment services, mental health services, Health Home care management, and HIV+ health services, is rapidly expanding. To strategically support this growth, we are seeking an experienced Senior Director of Behavioral Health (BH) Operations. Reporting directly to the division’s VP, but working closely with the clinical management team, this position will be responsible for ensuring that the daily activities of the BH staff are aligned with the contractual outcomes of the division and conform to the established policies and procedures of the governing entities within each BH unit. This position will oversee the day-to-day operational and data functions of the division, including training BH staff on data best practices as it relates to the agency’s intranet and our EHR (Accumedic). The Senior Director, Operations will also train staff on, and review, documentation/case note encounters (both clinical and non-clinical) to ensure best practices.

Operational Expertise – The Senior Director will have a proven track record in the field of contract/outcomes management, as well as practical, hands-on experience working with individuals who have a history of substance use and/or mental health needs. This includes addressing issues of client ambivalence through excellent client engagement skills, keeping up to date on the latest regulatory guidance, assisting staff in identifying which contract(s) participants should be allocated to, and training/modeling de-escalation techniques with clients when appropriate. Occasional crisis management and incident documentation will also be required.
Organizational Skills – The Senior Director will be confident in collecting, analyzing, and reporting on data via Excel and other digital platforms. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Management and Supervision - The Senior Director will operate under the supervision of the VP of Programs. This individual will be experienced in staff development and oversight, including managing underperformance and highlighting excellence. The individual will have experience in creating and modifying operational workflows that align with the overarching goals of the division and will model effective leadership techniques through constructive support and regular supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the leadership of the VP, lead quality assurance checks for the division to ensure that service delivery is following all federal, state, and city agency requirements and is in line with all funder expectations;
- Create, modify, and implement departmental procedures and workflows designed to improve behavioral health operations and contractual outcomes;
- Provide day-to-day leadership in ensuring quality service delivery is consistent with agency values and contractual obligations;
- Work collaboratively with program leaders and clinical teams to implement creative solutions to barriers in care coordination and service delivery;
- Initiate and develop strategic plans, policies, and procedures for the division and establish and measure the division’s organizational performance against goals and objectives;
- Track issues and develop corrective action plans that generate near-term results and long-term solutions;
- Build alliances with other Fortune departments responsible for functional aspects of the BH division, including but not limited to Housing, Admissions, Court Advocacy, ICAN, ATI, Employment, and Billing & Compliance;
- Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement in department efficiencies.
- Represent the division at various funder and agency meetings as required and drive the conversations and processes needed to secure key referrals for the BH division;
- Review all Critical Indicators for accuracy and provide analytical recommendations for improved program delivery;
- Responsible for the operation and clinical management of the agency’s MAT program;
- Work in partnership with the Senior Director of Clinical Operations to ensure staff are conducting themselves in a clinically effective, ethical, and safe manner in all their interactions with clients. This should be done through formal and informal supervisions and regular review of documentation;
- Conduct and record supervision sessions ensuring oversight of day-to-day operation and staff job performance and development, assessing staff professional development needs;
- Ensure all funder reports are completed in a timely manner and adhere to regulatory standards;
- Assume additional responsibilities as needed
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- LMSW, LMHC, or LCSW with additional CASAC credential strongly preferred;
- Experience in the field of Behavioral Health, inclusive of Health Home care management, also preferred;
- Working knowledge of the health-care environment, especially as it relates to persons diagnosed with OUD;
- Proven operational management experience, preferably working in the fields of substance abuse;
- Strong leadership, interpersonal communication and managerial skills to lead, motivate and direct staff
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience with Microsoft Office and computer systems and applications;
- Strong organizational and leadership skills;
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus;
Travel Requirements: This position is based in Fortune’s Long Island City headquarters but will require frequent travel to other agency offices throughout NYC.
