Position Overview:
The EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) Technician will assist the EHS Manager with all day-to-day EHS department duties. The EHS Technician supports operations by assisting the EHS Manager to maintain and enhance environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role will assist in implementing safety initiatives, conducting audits, and ensuring a safe working environment. Within the role, you will apply your EHS knowledge and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for yourself and others, and achieve short-term and long-term business goals.
In This Function You Will
• Ensure all team members comply with EHS regulations through training, auditing, inspecting, and providing leadership.
• Work closely with the EHS Manager to identify gaps in the safety program, research & develop new initiatives, and roll out new initiatives to the team.
• Conducts inspections and audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company EHS policies and procedures. Takes appropriate action when deficiencies are found and track corrective actions to completion. Implements actions to reduce risk and drive to zero incidents.
• Cover EHS Manager’s absence.
• Train, observe, authorize and track records for the facility programs that require an onsite trainer such as Fall Protection, LOTO, etc.
• Identify safety project needs, provide management with recommendations, and manage safety projects.
• Promote proactive safety participation by all employees to ensure all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported and investigated, and resolved appropriately.
• Coordinate and schedule safety trainings and orientations, prepare training certificates and track all employee trainings.
• Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, training sessions and regulatory compliance documentations.
• Conduct routine safety audits in the facility, assess areas of concern and recommend corrective actions.
• Contribute to the safety committee, monitor the progress of safety initiatives.
• Consistently operate in a manner that aligns to FMD’s Core Values of Velocity, Integrity, and Teamwork.
Qualifications
Basic (Required):
• High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school.
• 3-5 years previous experience working in an EHS position. Minimum job experience, professional development and continuing education may be substituted for educational experience.
• Previous experience with OSHA or HAZCOM training including leading training for other employees.
• Knowledge of MSDS and EHS symbols and markings.
• Experience using a cloud-based facility management and maintenance software such as FacilityDude.
• Proficient in MS Office products.
• Must be US Citizen and cannot hold dual-citizenship to any other country to meet NOFORN requirements.
Preferred
• Associate degree in Occupational Safety or Environmental Health and Safety or related field.
• Knowledge of basic shop math and welding symbols.
• Ability to read and understand formal, informal drawings, and/or engineering drawings.
• Experience with structural frames and NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 a plus.
• Experience with sheet metal punching and forming a plus.
Skills
• Ability to read written instructions and comprehend verbal instructions.
• Ability to read and follow standard work.
• Ability to use good judgment and problem-solving skills to make informed decisions.
• Basic computer knowledge of Windows based operating systems and programs.
• Ability to use measuring tape, and variable gauges, such as calipers.
• Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to use a crane once fully trained to lift items.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Repetitive lifting, bending, and squatting is inherent to this position.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to wear required PPE for the role including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, and protective arm and hand coverings.
