This position is a member of our Air Quality Division.

 

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Complete highly complex quality assurance review of point source industrial process emissions data (including but not limited to the oil and gas, electric utility, coating, fiberglass, storage, and refinery industries) through the emissions inventory questionnaire process; verify company account calculations; evaluate, review, select, adapt, and modify standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria; estimates and collects environmental data.
  • Complete special projects, which includes researching and modifying basic database file information; compiling basic data for briefings and presentations on company accounts; participating in team-oriented projects; and generating reports from the Emissions Inventory database.
  • Prepare slides, handouts, and other information for the annual emissions inventory conference.
  • Refer accounts to management for enforcement action as needed, and provide other assistance with compliance determinations related to all applicable emissions assessment rules.
 

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field, plus two years of full-time experience in environmental activities.

One year of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.

OR

  • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the degrees listed above, plus one year of the required experience.

OR

  • A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, science, environmental studies, or related fields.

Career Ladder Progression

  • Two years of full-time experience as a Natural Resources Specialist II at TCEQ.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2).  Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience reviewing and assessing scientific or technical data in a work setting (including internships).
  • Experience working with air related issues:  modeling, emissions assessment, site assessments, permitting, monitoring, and/or other technical air issues. 
  • Experience preparing and/or reviewing emissions inventories.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Natural Resources Specialist III state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Natural Resources Specialist III series.

 

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Air Quality Division.
