In the absence of the classroom teacher, the educational substitute will provide instruction, encourage student progress and manage the learning environment. Assignments will be on a day-to-day basis.

The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow the lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher to provide an effective and appropriate educational program for assigned students
- Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policy
- Continue as much as possible the routines and procedures for the school and classroom to which assigned
- Report to office upon arrival at school; check mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; request clarification of school rules and procedures
- Grade papers and homework, complete accurate records and other required data, and submit reports in a timely manner
- Maintain strict student and parent confidentiality
- Provide feedback to teacher. Include comments on the behavior of students, lessons completed and any possible changes in lesson plans
- Uphold all district policies and campus rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subjected to
- Report all student injuries, accidents, illness and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as reasonably possible

- Bachelor's Degree
- Valid Texas Drivers License and maintain insurability
- Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment preferred
- Must be organized, creative, independent and self-motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, detail-oriented and driven by excellence
- Must possess good communication skills in order to present facts effectively in oral and written form
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, District staff, school instructional and support staff
- Must present a neat, professional appearance
- Must be able to adjust tasks and focus with composure in accordance with changing deadlines and priorities
- Be flexible and receptive to change
- Good knowledge of Fort Bend Independent School District public school mission, goals and organization
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Ability to utilize multi-media equipment and materials and computer technology
- Some related substitute or teaching experience preferred

- Educational substitutes are instructed to request assistance when lifting/ carrying heavy items and when climbing is necessary to prepare displays, bulletin boards, etc. Work requires sufficient mobility to move about the classroom and inside and outside the school building. Work environment may be noisy. Work may involve exposure to student bodily fluids and disease conditions. Work may require exposure to student mal-adaptive behavior. Work involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment and performing job duties.
