Lead Communications Operator- Access Management, Full-Time, Bridgeton

The preferred shift time for this role will be 9:30am-8:00pm Monday- Friday. There must also be availability to work every other weekend and must be flexible to meet operational departmental needs. Can we list the position with this revision. 

 

MAJOR FUNCTION:

The Lead Communications Operator provides real-time switchboard support, facilitates emergency communications as needed, and serves as a peer leader within the hospital Communications Operator team. This position is responsible for assisting with alarm panel monitoring, emergency code activation, paging systems, and switchboard communication. The Lead Operator role is distinguished by supporting the Supervisor with onboarding of new staff, helping to maintain communication systems and workflows, and identifying process improvement opportunities. The Lead Communications Operator functions as a knowledgeable resource to fellow Communications Operators. The Lead Communications Operator will also answer incoming switchboard calls similar to the Communications Operators. This role must be available to work all shift times. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

• High School graduate or equivalent required.
• Previous experience with mentoring or coaching peers required. 
• Excellent verbal communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills. 
• Ability to remain composed and professional in high-volume or escalated situations. 
• Bilingual skills (Spanish) a plus. 
• Working knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.
• Minimum 1-2 years Call Center, medical office, or similar customer service experience required.
• Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone. 
• Ability to relate to people with diverse educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds. 
• Ability to handle a high volume, call center environment and to multi-task. 
• Ability to exercise good judgment to handle calls appropriately. -
• Experience with pager systems, PC applications (Word, Excel), and communication platforms such as SPOK.
