Description
The Valuation Analyst is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate review of or assistance with reviewing appraisal reports and market studies, coordinating comments and requested revisions to appraisal vendors alongside Merchants’ underwriting platforms, and providing timely feedback on appraisal vendors to the Chief Appraiser who maintains the Approved Vendor List. All reviews and interactions with appraisers should be in accordance with agency and Merchants guidelines. Responsibilities also include but are not limited to bidding and engaging third-party reports, participating in developing training schedules and material, as well as advising/assisting originations and underwriting departments regarding questions on value(s) or methodologies within appraisals.
A successful Valuation Analyst will possess an understanding of appraisal methodology, including USPAP and FIRREA requirements, as well as an understanding of the appraisal report within the overall underwriting process. While opportunities for advancement at Merchants vary widely, the individual in this position will gain experience and knowledge that primarily equips them with a deep understanding of appraisal review and quality control of appraisal reports for underwriting purposes and risk mitigation.
Requirements
- Analyze and review appraisals and market studies.
- Compile 3rd party bid requests, reach out to vendors for bids, and engage 3rd party vendors for Asset Management – IRE.
- Provide solutions to challenges within the various appraisal reports to underwriting and originations.
- Review vetting package for new appraisal vendors.
- Provide feedback in order to monitor the quality of our approved appraisal vendor list.
- Collaborate with supervisor on training schedule, topics, and materials for various Merchants’ platforms.
- Advise underwriters and processors on needed market values for various loan products and onboarded deals, including review bid requests when necessary.
- Will be required to work overtime hours as needed to meet the needs of the department.
- Attend training on applicable subjects when available and appropriate for the position and for maintaining licensure.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Expected Experience, Skills and Education:
- Minimum of three years’ experience with financial analysis or underwriting is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, real estate, or related field preferred.
- Requires critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and multitasking.
- Excellent customer service skills in person and on the phone.
- Excellent skills in working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are a requirement.
