Description
Position Overview
The CNC Technical Trainer is responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs for CNC operators and machinists across various levels. This role ensures that employees gain the technical competencies required to operate CNC machinery safely and efficiently, while also supporting career progression and succession planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Training Program Development
- Create and maintain structured training plans for CNC Operators and Machinists
- Develop instructional materials aligned with departmental work instructions (e.g., WI-MFG series, WI-QUA series)
- Integrate Paylocity and Epicor systems into training workflows
Instruction & Delivery
- Conduct hands-on training sessions, classroom instruction, and on-the-job training (OJT).
- Demonstrate machine start-up, operation, and shut-down procedures
- Teach blueprint reading, metrology, and safety protocols including PPE and lifting techniques
Evaluation & Feedback
- Assess trainee performance through quizzes, demonstrations, and observation.
- Maintain detailed training records signed by both trainer and trainee
- Provide feedback and recommend advancement or additional support as needed.
Succession Planning
- Identify employees for upskilling based on retirement forecasts and operational needs
- Collaborate with HR and department leads to align training with workforce planning
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure training aligns with OSHA standards and internal safety policies.
- Monitor adherence to departmental work instructions and quality inspection protocols

Requirements
Skill and Competencies
- Proven experience operating and programming CNC machinery.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, machine setup, and precision machining.
- Familiarity with training platforms such as Paylocity and Epicor.
- Excellent communication and instructional skills.
- Ability to assess technical competency and tailor training accordingly.
- Experience with apprenticeship programs and mentoring.
- Knowledge of M&G-code and DNC systems.
- Ability to interpret and teach from technical documentation and SOPs.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree Preferred; or equivalent experience
Experience and/or Training: 3-5 years of adult training experience in business and manufacturing environments (preferably CNC Manufacturing facility).
Licenses/Certificates: Not applicable
Technology/Equipment: Ability to use a computer, and other office equipment.
Physical and Mental Demands
