Description
Wood Rodgers’ environmental team is part of a well-established engineering firm. Wood Rodgers delivers innovative environmental and engineering solutions for a wide range of local, state, and federally funded public works projects, as well as supporting our engineering teams on private development projects. Our core focus is to minimize the environmental impacts of housing, industrial, and transportation-related construction projects. Wood Rodgers is seeking a highly talented and motivated Senior Environmental Planner to assist project managers navigate the environmental permitting process, review site plans and visit project sites to investigate potential environmental effects and identify permitting requirements. They would coordinate with regulatory agencies to manage permitting issues, and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The Senior Environmental Planners will complete biological resource surveys, and environmental planning and permitting tasks. This individual will have the ability to conduct field assessments of environmental resources, specifically biological resources, prepare stand-alone environmental reports of findings, prepare environmental documentation in compliance with NEPA, and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders. They may participate in public involvement meetings, or give presentations to government officials, and be involved in client outreach and business development through proposals, interviews, and presentations. The ideal candidate will have experience with project development and implementation regulations and can work independently with minimal mentorship. Experience should include projects wherein they completed biological surveys; prepared written documentation of findings; considered potential impacts and mitigation opportunities. - Conduct literature research and record searches.
- Complete biological field surveys and prepare reports
- Monitor construction work, ensuring compliance with environmental design specifications, federal and state permit conditions.
- Assisting in the development of or writing of technical reports and environmental documents in compliance with NEPA, including biological resources, aquatic resources, and site stabilization/revegetation planning.
- Work with other disciplines within the company, clients, regulatory authorities and subconsultants, in-person and in video/teleconference meetings.
- Prepare regulatory permit applications and assist in securing environmental permits. Assist in general environmental planning tasks when needed by the group in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor of Science in biology, ecology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in related fieldwork.
- Working knowledge of federal and state environmental laws (i.e. Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, NEPA, and NDEP).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and meet critical timelines.
- Can manage multiple competing tasks at once.
- Strong organization and time management skills; detail-oriented.
- Ability to physically perform field work under a variety of conditions, high or low temperatures and inclement weather; and walk/hike and/or drive to remote locations over uneven terrain.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record as there is periodic travel throughout the state in support of projects.
- Experience with GPS/GIS applications.
- Competency using Microsoft Office.
- Excellent analytical, writing and communication skills.

Offers will be based on several factors, including experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, training, and location. Base pay is just one part of the comprehensive compensation package offered by Wood Rodgers.
