The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the development, administration and performance management of the WRG SQL Server database environment which includes operational, reporting and business intelligence databases. The position will also ensure the high availability and the security of all databases. In addition to the duties related to database administration, the DBA will be a member of project teams focused either on software development or infrastructure management.
Salary Grade (15) 92,084 - 117,406 - 142,729
As a member of a software development team, the position will perform data analysis, database design, development and administration of the database environment. The DBA will provide support to the evolving Data Architecture and Data Strategy initiatives underway at WRG.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Creating and implementing fully functional databases in Production, Development and QA environments
Performing data analysis, database design and database development as a member of a software development team
Tuning databases for optimum application performance
Proactively identifying and addressing database server performance issues
Planning for increased capacity and scalability
Implementing and enforcing database security policy
Establishing backup and recovery strategy for all databases and their related hardware and software
Installing, maintaining and upgrading database software as required
Documenting procedures for administration of databases and their related hardware and software
Providing ongoing analysis of current systems, looking to identify new technologies or processes that could improve the existing operating state
Mentoring others designated as having the capabilities of assisting in SQL administration tasks

Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university or comparable work experience
Experience in database administration in a production environment
Strong performance monitoring and tuning skill set
Strong background in security principles, procedures, and best practices
Strong knowledge of the SQL language
Experience with database design tools
Knowledge of Data Warehouse design and concepts
Knowledge of data modeling, including Entity-Relationship and/or Dimensional models
Familiarity with ETL tools and processes
Microsoft SQL Server Certification is encouraged.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. The individual must be able to effectively and clearly communicate with agency, departmental, and company personnel via telephone, e-mail, and one on one dialogue in a highly professional manner.
