Are you an experienced retail investigator with a passion for uncovering the truth and protecting business integrity? As our National Investigator, you’ll be at the forefront of a renewed focus on retail crime, leading proactive investigations targeting high-harm offenders.
Your work will directly reduce the shrinkage expense while keeping our team members and customers safe. From tackling theft, fraud, and organised criminal activity to collaborating with internal teams, law enforcement, and industry partners, you’ll gather intelligence, analyse trends, and deliver decisive outcomes that protect our people, our assets, and our brand.
You’ll also take ownership of complex internal investigations, ensuring integrity is upheld at every level of the business. If you thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes environments and are ready to make a measurable impact, this is your opportunity to step into a role that matters.
What will you do?
As a National Investigator working for Kmart and Target, you will:
- Lead complex internal and high impact external investigations, preparing briefs for police and prosecution.
- Conduct lawful interviews and provide clear incident overviews to stakeholders.
- Analyse incidents to identify root causes, trends, and risk areas.
- Utilise data, CCTV, alarms, and fraud platforms to investigate theft, fraud, and high-risk activity.
- Respond to critical incidents and coordinate with emergency services.
- Support online fraud cases, covert security operations, and whistleblower investigations.
- Deliver regular reports and recommendations to reduce risk and protect assets.
What are we looking for?
- 3–5 years’ investigation experience in retail or a related environment.
- Proven investigation experience in retail (highly regarded) or law enforcement.
- Ability to create and conduct written records of interviews that are lawful.
- Working knowledge of all fraud data systems, CCTV, alarms and relevant legislations.
- Skilled in AUROR platform.
- Good knowledge of APPRISS platform (highly desired).
- Knowledge of relevant legislations and privacy compliance is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate and provide business outcomes and reports with root cause analysis.
- Interest or experience in online fraud an advantage.
- A passion for outcomes and results and an eagerness to see investigations through!
- Ability to travel for investigations.
