Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Auto Mechanic to join our Fleet Department and play a critical role in maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of over 300 vehicles. Our fleet includes a wide range of vehicles, from passenger vans and trucks to large commercial vehicles such as DOT-regulated vehicles, cranes, commercial truck cabs, and specialty vehicles. The ideal candidate will possess advanced mechanical expertise, be proficient with diagnostic tools, and have a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. In this senior role, you will lead complex repairs, conduct thorough inspections, mentor junior technicians, and collaborate closely with fleet management to ensure the optimal performance and reliability of our fleet. This position demands a detail-oriented, safety-focused professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for continuous improvement in fleet maintenance operations.
Role and Responsibilities:
· Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair vehicle systems with accuracy and efficiency
· Use advanced diagnostic tools and software to identify issues and determine appropriate repairs
· Perform complex repairs including engine rebuilding, transmission repair, and electrical system troubleshooting
· Conduct thorough safety inspections and ensure all repairs meet company and regulatory safety standards
· Perform preventative maintenance and routine servicing including oil changes, lubrication, brake service, and tune-ups
· Mentor, train, and guide junior technicians to improve skills and knowledge
· Coordinate with Fleet Manager, Safety Department, and other stakeholders to update vehicle technologies, including cameras, GPS systems (Samsara), and telematics platforms
· Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance shop efficiency and quality of work
· Maintain accurate service records and diagnostic reports using company software (candidate will be trained to use Samsara, Fleet Cost and Care NexGen)
· Assist in parts ordering and inventory management to ensure timely availability of necessary components
· Follow all safety procedures and promote a culture of workplace safety and compliance
· Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and manufacturer service bulletins and recalls
· Provide expert advice and technical support to fleet management and drivers
· Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, air brake, HVAC, suspension, drivetrain, steering, and other chassis-related systems
Required Skills:
- ASE certification or equivalent industry certification
· Extensive knowledge of chassis components, vehicle bodies, control systems, hydraulic, electrical, air brake, and general engine systems
· Expertise with HVAC, suspension, drivetrain, and steering systems
· Valid driver’s license required (CDL not mandatory)
· Own a comprehensive set of professional mechanic tools
· Proven ability to operate diagnostic software and fleet management tools (training provided for Samsara & Fleet Cost and Care NexGen)
· Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring or supervising technicians
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Strong communication skills to clearly convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders
· Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
· Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment
· Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and dedication to quality workmanship
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with diesel vehicles greatly valued
- Experience with medium and heavy-duty vehicles
- Familiarity with electronic vehicle systems and hybrid/electric vehicle technology
- Experience in fleet maintenance environments
Physical Requirements

- Walking, standing, bending, or twisting
Frequently Required:
- Bending or twisting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, and crawling. Working with various chemicals
Occasionally Required:
- Working with arms raised over head. Max carries 75lbs. Push/pull 40-75lbs. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures. Working from or on ladders. Working at heights. Exposure to high sound levels. Operate motorized equipment.
