About the Role: Fragomen, an Am Law 100 Firm and the leading global immigration services provider, is seeking an Application Development Director. The App Dev Director will lead teams of skilled software professionals through the development and deployment of next-generation digital solutions. The ideal person will have strong experience leading large team of developers in creating new software products, system upgrades and enhancements, client specific customizations, as well as integrations with other in-house and client facing systems. Fragomen is working with an array of the latest and greatest technologies, in a largely Microsoft technology environment. This is an excellent opportunity for innovators and will involve delivering numerous unique technology products and services.

How will you make a difference as an Application Development Director at Fragomen?

Leadership

  • Lead the development team through significant new product developments as well as through sustaining existing products. The application portfolio includes solutions for financial, workflow, time and attendance, and case management business requirements. 

  • Plan, budget, and oversee operations of the Development department.

  • Provide oversight and serve as an interface to executive management for large system upgrades, evaluation of programming techniques and training needs, and selection and implementation of training. 

  • Manage a team of numerous Architects, Developers as well as outside labor/consultant developers (both nearshore and offshore)

  • Develop and execute the software engineering strategy in alignment with organizational goals.

  • Provide visionary leadership to multiple software development teams, mentoring senior software engineers and engineering managers when possible.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure the professional growth and development of team members.

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to shape the technology roadmap.   

Technical Strategy & Delivery

  • Provide technical direction and guidance on complex engineering projects.

  • Review and approve architectural decisions to ensure alignment with industry best practices.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends to inform strategic decisions.

  • Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale software engineering programs.

  • Apply effective project management methodologies and tools to ensure successful outcomes.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards.

  • Identify and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Resource Management, Continuous Improvement, and Quality

  • Manage engineering resources, including workforce planning and budget allocation.

  • Optimize resource utilization to meet project goals and timelines efficiently.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering performance and practices.

  • Implement and oversee quality assurance processes to uphold high software standards.

Leverage your valuable skills and experience to make an impact at Fragomen:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field experience

  • A minimum of ten years of experience in the field of Software Engineering/Application Development, including at least five years of supervisory experience

  • Prior experience both hands-on and in leadership within a .NET environment; with latest and great Microsoft technologies preferred

  • Experience with working in an Agile development environment and with DevOps

  • Experience from a software development firm, professional services, insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated industry preferred.

  • Current principles and practices of information technology and applications development in a complex, global organization

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-year global IT implementation projects

  • Strategic planning, budgeting, and operations within an information technology department.

  • Project initiation, prioritization, and information technology allocation processes.

  • Systems analysis, database design, and program design

  • Programming techniques and associated training needs identification and implementation
