About the Team
The GSMA Industry Security team is tasked with assisting GSMA members develop and improve security and fraud management capabilities in the mobile ecosystem. The team delivers several capabilities to support this goal including:
• Establishing direct relationships with industry security and fraud management experts;
• Facilitating intelligence sharing and cooperation between members on mobile security and fraud threats to network operators and their customers;
• Convening events that bring security and fraud management specialists from the mobile ecosystem and adjacent industries together, to create business connections and drive positive security impacts;
• Providing a centralised advice and reporting capability; and
• Using a team of analysts to aid with threat evaluation and risk mitigation.
Working Groups
Working Groups, of which the Fraud and Security Group is one and is the area of focus for this position, are the traditional “engines” of the GSMA, initially created to support the establishment of roaming and interworking services for 2G/GSM, they have since adapted their work and scope with every generational and service update.
They are continually evolving with both long-term and contemporary active members. The Working Groups have resource pools of subject matter experts from member organisations that provide huge value to GSMA’s activities. Fraud and security are key topics engaged in to ensure the secure and resilient operation of networks and services globally.
In some cases, working groups, including the Fraud and Security Group, publish specifications that are regarded as global standards, in other areas they take outputs from key standards and ensure interoperable solutions and approaches can be deployed. Key organisations that the team engages with are industry suppliers and standards development organisations. Working Groups collaborate and periodically meet to gather opinions, reach consensus, draft and approve specifications and other documents.
Fraud and Security Group Director
The Fraud and Security Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Fraud and Security Group working in partnership with the elected or appointed Chair from the GSMA membership and GSMA team colleagues.
About You
• Notable industrial experience and a technical background, ideally with a strong technology degree and/or professional security certifications.
• Demonstrable understanding of security principles, information security management systems, risk management and vulnerability treatment and response.
• Knowledge of the mobile telecommunications industry, specifically the threats faced and technologies used (legacy, current and future), and enjoy the respect of mobile industry security professionals.
• Fluent spoken and written English, and you will be able to communicate technical matters to a non-technical audience.
• The ability to demonstrate sound judgment in the prioritisation of competing work assignments, escalation of issues and analytical problem solving.
• Effective organisation and project management skills with key attention to detail and delivery of high-quality documentation.
• The ability to motivate project teams composed of geographically dispersed members from GSMA member companies worldwide and enjoy coordinating their activities.
• The ability to effectively work with others to make up for gaps in your experience or knowledge.
• Strong sense of business ethics and principles, and you will understand and adhere to anti-trust principles.
• Cultural understanding and sensitivity, recognising that GSMA is a global organisation with members from many countries and cultures.
