Traveling Biomedical Equipment Specialists are responsible for: 

  • Drive MEC vehicles to study locations (stands)
  • Set up MECs including parking, leveling, and utility hookups
  • Set up, maintain, and calibrate medical equipment and perform quality control
  • Ensuring that the MECs are well-maintained, including regular servicing and maintenance
  • Provide technical support to clinical staff for medical equipment
  • Routinely performing inventory of materials and supplies while MECs are in operation at stands and communicate regularly with the RTI study leadership with inventory updates
  • Perform audiometry and vision exams after training
  • Assist with data collection and specimen shipments
  • Manage and maintain equipment, tablet, and supplies properly
  • Provide all completed forms to supervisor, as requested
  • Follow study protocols and infection control guidelines
  • Attend and complete all required project training
  • Performing other duties as assigned
  • This position involves lifting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years old
  • High School Diploma or GED. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement or must have equivalent military training in biomedical/electrical equipment.
  • Biomedical Engineering Technician Training through the military or college coursework
  • Minimum of 1 year of Biomedical Equipment experience in a clinical environment
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance: technical inspections, repairs and troubleshooting, calibration, and QA/QC
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain CPR certification within the first 3 months of employment
  • Flexibility in assigned work schedules and tasks is essential.
  • Basic computer proficiency and clerical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate MEC vehicles (38 feet in length and over 26,000 lbs. in weight) to various study locations or willingness to obtain on

Preferred Qualifications for Ideal Candidates:

  • Associate's Degree with a focus in bioinstrumentation, biomedical electronics, and biomedical technology
  • At least 3 years of biomedical equipment technician or military biomedical equipment experience
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET)
  • Other relevant industry certifications (e.g., AAMI, FMCNA)
