General Maintenance Operative
About The Role
Lancashire County Council's Facilities Management Service has responsibility for the delivery of a wide range of 'hard' and 'soft' services across a large portfolio of operational property that is dispersed throughout the county of Lancashire.
The General Maintenance Operative role sits within the Hard FM Services team, which is remitted to provide high quality and cost effective services to achieve optimal and sustainable performance from our property portfolio, ensuring that all facilities are operating safely and efficiently to meet the Council's business and regulatory obligations and to provide for the essential services needs of the people and communities of Lancashire.
The position will be based at our County Hall operational headquarters building but the successful candidate will be required to travel throughout the county to other sites, so a full clean driving licence will be required. You will also require good communication skills, a positive attitude and a willingness to work as part of a team to deliver a first class service to our internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities:
- To carry out a variety of planned and reactive maintenance tasks as directed, demonstrating flexibility at all times in relation to tasks allocated, which will be varied in nature and will include but will not be limited to general building, joinery, tiling, painting, paving and external works, drainage works and plumbing.
- To undertake general facilities tasks, including furniture building and removals, grounds and site clearance, and keeping areas clean and tidy generally.
- To carry out inspection and planned preventative maintenance works in line with departmental programmes.
- To work individually or as part of a team to complete repair and maintenance tasks.
- To manage and prioritise own workload in order to complete repairs in a timely manner and in accordance with KPI/SLA timescales.
- To make and maintain adequate records of all maintenance and repair work undertaken.
- Use relevant IT systems to document works and service records as required by council procedures, industry standards and health and safety regulations.
- Undertake regular and pre-drive safety checks on vehicles used for work purposes as required by Council policies and procedures to ensure that vehicles are safe. Maintain vehicle records as required and keep vehicles in a clean and tidy order, ensuring that vehicles are secure and correctly parked when not in use.
- Adhere to Council health and safety policy and procedures, identify hazards and undertake appropriate risk assessments as required.
- Ensure that formal qualifications required for the role are kept up to date.
