The Opportunity
Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a dedicated Irrigation Technician to join our Parks and Gardens team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, testing, and repair of irrigation systems and water assets within the Council’s Open Spaces. Your expertise will ensure that our irrigation infrastructure and water management systems, including pumps, wetlands, and water storage ponds, operate at optimal efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and testing of irrigation systems, controllers, pumps, drinking fountains, and water management assets (including wetlands and water storage ponds) in Council’s Open Spaces.
- Respond to customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly, ensuring excellent service delivery.
- Conduct irrigation efficiency audits and compile detailed results to improve system performance.
- Operate and maintain both light and heavy machinery, adhering to safety protocols and ensuring safe working practices.
- Provide on-the-job training to staff, fostering a culture of learning and safety.
- Report on machinery status, customer complaints, and any issues related to the department’s facilities and resources.
- Uphold and demonstrate Council’s values and safety protocols, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Collaborate with the wider Parks & Gardens team and external contractors to maintain high operational standards.
Skills & Experience
To succeed in this role, you will need to be a certificate III in Sports Turf Managememnt or have extensive experience in the field. You should be highly skilled in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and water management assets, with a strong understanding of central control systems and irrigation technology. Experience working in a large service organisation (local government or similar) is essential, and you should possess proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of both light and heavy machinery. Additionally, a valid driver's license (preferably with medium rigid endorsement) is required, and you must have demonstrated experience in problem-solving and prioritising work to meet set objectives.
