Pay Rate: $15/hr

Key Components:

This position is reserved for Federal Work Study (FWS) students only. This position is ideal for students passionate about fashion, design, or theatrical arts, providing real-world experience in costume design and management.

  • In a student employee capacity, may assist in working with external community service partners.
  • Help design, create, and alter costumes for various productions.  
  • Manage the organization and maintenance of the costume inventory and create a photo map and directory to help casts replace costumes in storage in the correct places.  
  • Assist actors with quick changes and costume fittings during performances.  
  • Work closely with the costume designer to bring creative visions to life.  
  • Ensure all costumes are cleaned and stored properly after shows.

Job Description:

  • Work with local organization(s) or community partners
  • Provide excellent customer service as a representative of the University
  • May assist with planning, organizing, and implementing community services or programs
  • May assist with various projects, activities or tasks related to community projects
  • May contribute to developing and maintaining good relationships with internal and external partners
  • May serve as a source to provide information about resources and assistance related to community program(s) or service(s)
  • May serve to enhance outreach for the greater Waco community 
  • Ensure confidentiality of all pertinent information
  • May prepare and present information in a group or workshop setting
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission  
  • Ability to comply with University policies  
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance

  • Basic Knowledge of Garment Construction
  • Costume Maintenance (cleaning, steaming, organizing)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Costume Construction & Maintenance – Develop skills in basic sewing, alterations, and fabric care for stage costumes.
  • Fabric & Textile Knowledge – Understand different materials and their uses in costume design and maintenance.
  • Time Management & Efficiency – Develop the ability to complete alterations, fittings, and repairs within production deadlines.
  • Creative Thinking & Styling – Explore how to adapt and modify costumes to fit a character’s look or the director’s vision.
