The Physical Therapist is responsible for evaluating/assessing needs of referred patients and formulating treatment plans. This position provides therapy services defined in treatment plans and works cooperatively with physicians, case managers, and adjustors.


This position will also serve as the Rehabilitation Coordinator for Colorado State University athletics, providing care in collaboration with team physicians, athletic trainers and other ancillary providers. This position will coordinate with the Senior Associate AD for Health and Performance for all aspects related to Colorado State University athletics.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team physicians and sports medicine staff to provide physical therapy services for Colorado State University student-athletes upon referral. 
  • Evaluates the extent of the patient’s disabilities to determine appropriate treatment programs.
  • Administers medically prescribed physical therapy treatment on patients suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint, and bone diseases, to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability.
  • Reviews physician's referral (prescription) and patient's condition and medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required.
  • Records treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart or enters information into computer.
  • Instructs patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
  • Uses a variety of tests, such as manual muscle test, goniometry, functional testing, and gait analysis in the treatment programs.
  • Plans therapy programs and administers treatment to restore body function and strength, relieve pain and prevent disability.
  • Utilizes various therapeutic techniques such as exercise programs, facilitation techniques, muscle reeducation, gait training, hydrotherapy, and electrotherapy.
  • Utilizes various equipment and prosthetic and orthotic devices in the treatment programs. Provides demonstrations and instruction to the patient on how to use equipment.
  • Maintains medical records of evaluation, treatment, and progress of each patient.
  • Maintains therapy proficiency by keeping up to date with new orthopedic procedures and therapy techniques.
  • Participates in workshops, seminars, and other applicable continuing education opportunities.
  • Promotes learning by staying attuned to trends and developments in therapy, especially as they relate to orthopedics and sports medicine.
  • Participates in and collaborates on research projects with other members of the CSU sports medicine and sports performance teams.
  • Works with other OCR employees in a team environment to promote efficiency and positive outcomes.
  • Work with CSU sports medicine staff in a team environment to promote efficiency and positive outcomes. 
  • Serves as a professional representative of OCR. Participates in marketing and promotion of OCR and Colorado State University.
  • Collaborate with integrated performance team to identify and implement injury prevention initiatives for Colorado State University varsity athletics teams. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • One year previous orthopedic and manual therapy experience, preferred.
  • Minimum one year demonstrated experience with high level athletic program (preferred)
  • Licensed Physical Therapist within the state of Colorado. Must be in good standing. 
  • Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, required. 
  • Licensed Athletic Trainer in within the state of Colorado, in good standing (preferred).
  • Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist through the ABPTS (preferred).
  • Functional Dry Needling (FDN) certification.
  • Blood Flow Restriction (BRR) training certification (preferred).
  • Acceptable motor vehicle driving history, valid and free from restrictions, and must have a valid driver’s license and appropriate vehicle insurance coverage. Ability to travel between all OCR locations.

Physical Requirements

  • This position works in a typical medical environment. There are regular interruptions and significant distractions to work including, but not limited to: phones ringing; staff walking by; patients to attend to; noisy conversations that carry; and answering questions asked by others. The person in this position must frequently communicate with patients, doctors, coworkers, and others verbally as well as utilizing various equipment such as telephones, cell phones, text/instant messaging, email, and other means.
  • This position frequently moves around the clinic for up to 12 hours a day; and frequently assists patients in turning or sitting in a bed on a daily basis; as well as assists patients with rising from a bed or gurney, transferring to a wheelchair, and/or returning to a bed or wheelchair. This position also frequently pushes wheelchairs and must be able to move or lift up to 50 pounds.

Compensation Details: In addition to base salary, significant productivity incentives are available.
