Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking applicants to serve as Deputy Director of Executive Events.

  • The Deputy Director assists the Director of Executive Events in coordinating official events hosted by the President, the President’s Spouse, the Board of Visitors and other College officials.  Also coordinates with The Citadel Foundation (The Citadel’s fundraising entity) and other campus entities on events as required.
  • Plans, coordinates and executes events; assists and collates guest lists and data, and other sensitive information; maintains databases, seating charts, site layouts; produces and distributes event nametags and all other associated materials/tasks.
  • Assists in management of a nine bedroom, one kitchen suite complex used primarily by The Citadel Board of Visitors, and secures outside accommodations as required.
  • Prepares routine correspondence (invitations, RSVPs, etc.) for the President and spouse.
  • Assists the Director in management of the President’s residence, to include oversight and scheduling of maintenance and upkeep.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree. Progressive full-time experience in event planning/execution or hospitality industry.  Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).

Excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects with high visibility and priority. Employee must exercise basic social graces/etiquette and dress appropriately for events. Employee will work with minimal supervision and direction. The Executive Events staff interfaces effectively and professionally with various VIP constituents including the College President and his family, governing Board members, senior staff, alumni, donors, cadets, parents and visitors.

Must work with various personalities and campus constituencies in a team environment, and is expected to handle sensitive personal/protected information appropriately.

Duties often exceed normal working hours, including nights and weekends to support events. This role will include light housekeeping duties and hotel accommodation coordination for dignitaries and special guests of the College. Limited physical work is required such as pushing, lifting, carrying, climbing and reaching (physical activities associated with event setup/takedown). Employee must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two(2) years experience in event management/hospitality.  Experience in higher education.  Experience supporting CEO level events and quarters.
