Laboratory Assistant - 527243

Pay Grade/Pay Range:  Minimum: $15.48 - Midpoint: $18.56 (Hourly N2)

Department/Organization: 204414 - Biology Lab

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Job Summary: The Laboratory Assistant prepares and equips teaching labs for daily classes. Maintains, repairs, and cleans labs and lab equipment.

Additional Department Summary: Assists in the weekly break-down, set-up and maintenance of the teaching laboratories. Prepares specimens, media, reagents and solutions to specification for use in teaching laboratories. Propagates and maintains plant, animal (invertebrate), protist and bacterial cultures for teaching laboratories. Tracks and maintains the laboratory inventory of equipment, chemicals, and supplies. Tracks and manages biological and chemical laboratory waste. Assigns tasks to undergraduate student workers (maximum of 2) as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Coordinator.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience; OR associate's degree and some experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent communication skills. Ability to work as a team member and independently are also needed.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Biology, Microbiology, Botany, or Chemistry. Experience in a laboratory.
