The Coordinator of Prelicensure Nursing Clinical is a member of the Lourdes University Nursing Program faculty with all the rights and responsibilities of a faculty appointment. The Coordinator of Prelicensure Nursing Clinical is responsible for coordination and supervision of clinical Teaching Assistants (TA). The Coordinator of the Prelicensure Clinical Education DEMSN faculty and will have 3 credit hours per semester in the prelicensure programs. This is a 12-month appointment. The position is an appointment of the Provost based upon the recommendation of the Dean of College of Nursing and Social Sciences (CONSS) who confers with the Director of Prelicensure Nursing. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Academic Program Leadership

  • Support the Nursing Program with clinical partners to assure adequate clinical placements for Nursing prelicensure students.  
  • Collaborates with Dean and Program Director(s) on clinical partnerships and compliance with all OBN rules, regulations, and facility policies as appropriate for student placements.
  • Employ and supervise clinical teaching assistants in the prelicensure nursing programs, with input from faculty. 
  • Interfaces with the Nursing Prelicensure Faculty to ensure appropriate clinical placements for prelicensure students in the Nursing Program.
  • Analyzes and aggregates the evaluations of prelicensure clinical courses: Student evaluation of TA and clinical site, clinical site evaluations of students and faculty.


Administrative Responsibilities

  • Supports the Nursing Program Directors and the clinical faculty, with preparation of the schedule of clinical rotations in the prelicensure nursing programs. 
  • Assist Program Director(s) and faculty with placement in clinical sections and compliance to clinical student: TA ratios.
  • Coordinates with the faculty the assigned clinical site and the teaching assistants, preceptors, and students in the prelicensure nursing programs. 
  • Onboards the Clinical Teaching Assistants and preceptors with the Nursing Program policies. 
  • Assists the Dean of the College of Nursing and Social Sciences and the program director(s) in the preparation of reports for external agencies as  they relate to clinical experiences. 
  • Assists with maintaining university,  accreditation, and licensure standards associated with curricular changes related to the nursing clinical experiences in the prelicensure nursingprograms.
  • Assists with the Program Director(s) to find new opportunities for clinical experiences.

Essential Functions of Teaching:

  • Provides student orientation regarding clinical policies, student handbook, and is responsible for compliance of securing orientation materials as required by clinical agencies. 
  • Coordinates student clinical sites appropriate for each course including consideration of objectives and clinical lesson plans.
  • Regarding students who are not meeting clinical outcomes/objectives will notify the clinical course faculty immediately.  
  • Communicates in a timely fashion all pertinent and appropriate information to the clinical course faculty. 
  • Reports clinical absences and assists with arrangements for clinical make-ups according to the direction of the clinical course faculty.
  • Provides up to 3 credit hours of teaching each semester in the prelicensure program.
  • Provide critical needs for clinical clock hours as delegated by program director up to 10 hours per semester. 


Fulfillment of Role of Faculty

  • Engages in teaching, scholarship, and service appropriate to rank.
  • Teaching assignment expectation is equivalent to 3 credits of workload, and all responsibilities associated.
  • Engages in one’s own professional development.
  • Participates in departmental committees, faculty meetings, and workshops as directed by program director

Additional Responsibilities

  • Carries out assignments and other responsibilities assigned by the Program Directors and Dean.
  • Where appropriate, coordinates specific programs with outside agencies or groups and coordinates working agreements.
  • Where appropriate, coordinates specific program accreditation activities.
  • Develops and maintains specific activities for the department.
  • Assure compliance to all prelicensure on-boarding documents with review and tracking of health and professional requirements to assure compliance to all clinical settings and LU policies.

Requirements

  

  1. Preferred  terminal degree will consider Master of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing with nursing education experience.
  2. Current unencumbered RN license to practice in Ohio, preferred multistate license and Michigan.
  3. Experience of at least five years in the practice of nursing as an RN.
  4. Preferred 2 years teaching experience. 
  5. Current knowledge and experience in nursing.
  6. Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
