Willdan Lighting & Electric, a subsidiary of Willdan Group Inc., is seeking an Energy Engineer II for our office in New York.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits to identify and/or confirm potential electric and gas conservation measures.  
  • Collect and evaluate project documentation such as utility bills, as-built drawings, and other pertinent project information.  
  • Identify and estimate applicable energy efficiency incentives.
  • Analyze energy usage data. 
  • Use effective writing and verbal skills to deliver high-quality reports and presentations.  
  • Calculate cost savings and return on investment (ROI) for energy-efficient improvements. 
  • Perform detailed energy savings calculations and spreadsheet analysis.
  • Review architectural, mechanical, or electrical plans and specifications to evaluate energy efficiency or determine economic, service, or engineering feasibility. 
  • Inspect or monitor energy systems, including heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) or daylighting systems to determine energy use or potential energy savings. 
  • Provide consultation to clients or other engineers on topics such as climate control systems, energy modeling, data logging, energy management control systems, lighting or daylighting design, sustainable design, and energy auditing. 
  • Ability to review and analyze energy models. Such as eQuest, DOE2, Carrier HAP, and TRACE 700.
  • Required to meet project submission deadlines. 
  • Manage junior engineers and provide guidance on the review process. 
  • Coordinate meetings with energy contractors/consultants.  

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • Advanced engineering degree or a PE.
  • Certified Energy Manager certification.
  • Energy modeling skills.
  • 4 or more years of engineering experience.  
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks to ensure timely delivery of high-quality deliverables.  
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders while delivering excellent customer service in a highly dynamic growth environment. 
  • Significant experience with energy-intensive and specialty uses facilities.  
  • Experience with the professional development of more junior energy engineers.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving, entrepreneurial work environment. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and HVAC Modeling software.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (post-pandemic: this is flexible at the current time). Travel may include various means of transportation including automobile, public transportation, rail, and airplane.
