The Service and Special Projects Electrician is responsible for the construction, service, and maintenance of electrical systems including fire alarms, building controls, data, lighting, and EV charging. Other responsibilities include: troubleshooting and repairing systems supporting HVAC/R and plumbing, including motors, controls, breakers, transformers, and BAS wiring; as well as performing conduit installation, panel replacements, and other small projects.
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform assigned tasks efficiently under the direction of the Field Superintendent or independently as required.
- Perform additional related duties as required under the direction of the Service Manager.

Construct, install, service, and maintain a wide range of electrical systems, including fire alarm, data, security, access control, and building automation systems (BAS).

Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues related to HVAC/R, plumbing, lighting, and general building systems.

Install, maintain, and upgrade motor control centers, panelboards, breakers, transformers, contactors, starters, relays, and switchgear.

Execute complete conduit systems (EMT, PVC, rigid, etc.), including layout, bending, threading, and installation.

Perform electrical installations for lighting systems, EV charging infrastructure, energy efficiency upgrades, and renewable energy systems (e.g., solar).

Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings to complete installations and troubleshoot effectively.

Coordinate and execute shutdowns, lockouts, and safe startups of major building systems and equipment.

Size and pull appropriate conductors; terminate and splice wiring according to code and specification.

Provide full electrical support for HVAC/R and plumbing systems, including control wiring, motor replacements, and integration with BAS.

Perform testing, commissioning, and inspections of electrical systems to ensure code compliance and proper operation.

Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, and time spent.

Collaborate with other trades, contractors, and clients to ensure quality and efficiency on job sites.

Assist with onsite estimating, scope verification, and material take-offs for construction and service work.

Mentor apprentices by providing guidance and ensuring adherence to safe work practices and company standards.

Maintain current knowledge of Candian Electrical Code and industry best practices.

Uphold and enforce all Modern Niagara safety policies, including use of PPE, hazard identification, and participation in safety meetings and audits.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Previous Electrical Service experience in the commercial, industrial, institutional, multi-family residential and healthcare sectors as a Red Seal electrician.
- Red Seal trade qualification required.
- FSR certification (master electrician) is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of the Canadian electrical code.
- Thermography level 1 considered an asset.
- Understanding of building automation, plumbing and HVAC/R systems considered an asset.
- Class 5 license with clean abstract required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Excellent attention to detail when documenting tasks.
- Able to work at heights with all necessary safety training completed.
- Safety conscience individual who respects and adheres to all safety measures whilst on site.
- Strong work ethic with impressive electrical problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
- Hardworking individual with a strong desire to learn and grow within their position.
- Ability to work on own initiative but also within a team. Capable of mentoring and aiding the development of junior apprentices.
- Positive and professional attitude.
