Manager - Mechanical Engineering Group
R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited
Office
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
Full Time
Are you a mechanical engineer who thrives on building relationships, leading teams, and delivering smart, sustainable design solutions?
We’re looking for a Senior or Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Group at R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited. While based in Mississauga, we’re open to candidates who prefer to work out of one of our other Ontario offices.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people as much as solving complex design challenges—someone who sees project delivery, client engagement, and mentorship as interconnected and equally important.
You’ll lead HVAC and plumbing design on a range of exciting projects—think industrial facilities, commercial buildings, water/wastewater treatment plants, and transportation infrastructure. You'll also play a key role in client relationship development, proposal work, and mentoring the next generation of engineers.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage, develop, and grow a diverse team of experienced engineers and technologists
- Collaborate with peers and stakeholders to provide innovative solutions to complex problems
- Lead the design of HVAC and plumbing systems for municipal, commercial, and industrial buildings.
- Conduct field surveys, select equipment, and prepare detailed specifications.
- Support multidisciplinary teams with mechanical expertise during all project phases.
- Participate in and lead client meetings, building long-term partnerships and identifying new opportunities.
- Write and contribute to proposals, technical reports, and documentation for project submissions.
- Oversee construction administration and project delivery—from design through to completion.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians
- Work closely with other Burnside offices and disciplines to ensure efficient, high-quality project execution.
What You Bring:
- Eng. designation in Ontario with 5+ years of mechanical design experience, including HVAC and plumbing.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian and Ontario Building, Plumbing, and Energy Codes.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
- Strong grasp of industry standards, permitting processes, and approval agency expectations.
- Engaging approach to people management
- Proven project management skills, with the ability to manage schedules, budgets, and priorities.
- Excellent communication skills—you’re confident in both technical writing and client-facing conversations.
- A collaborative and proactive mindset, with a strong interest in mentoring others and growing your leadership impact.
- A passion for developing strong client relationships and contributing to business development.
This is more than a technical design role—it's an opportunity to lead projects, build strong client partnerships, and guide the next generation of engineers in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.
