We’re looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer who is passionate about precision mechanisms, novel actuation systems, and advanced robotics. You’ll be responsible for the mechanical architecture, performance, reliability, manufacturability, and scalability of our robotic hand.
Areas of Contribution
Hand Architecture: Develop the end-to-end mechanical architecture of the robotic hand, including fingers, joints, and actuators
Mechanism Innovation: Invent and refine high-performance mechanisms and actuators that enhance robotic dexterity and robustness
Analysis & Validation: Perform kinematic, kinetic, structural, thermal, and fatigue analyses to validate range of motion, speed, and long-term reliability
Optimization & Manufacturability: Optimize designs for cost-effectiveness, scalability, and manufacturability, ensuring seamless transition from prototyping to mass production
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components into robotic systems
Prototyping & Iteration: Conduct rapid prototyping, test fitting, and iterative design improvements
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent knowledge
Experience: 8+ years of experience in precision mechanical design, preferably in robotics, consumer electronics, or related fields
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Onshape) and mechanical simulation tools (FEA, CFD, etc.)
Strong understanding of rapid prototyping methods (3D printing, CNC, machining)
Strong understanding of mechanical simulation tools (FEA, CFD, etc.)
Experience transitioning designs from prototypes to scalable manufacturing, including supply chain and production ramp-up.
Soft Skills:
Strong problem-solving abilities with a first-principles approach to complex challenges
Effective communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams
Passion for robotics and deep belief in our mission
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience with humanoid robotic hand or prosthetic hand design
Hands-on experience integrating sensors and control systems into mechanical design
Knowledge of emerging materials and novel actuator technologies
