Job Description
The Site Lead will lead the Detection Baltimore Biotechnology Site effectively planning, coordinating, and managing of all activities relating to producing and delivering bio consumables products within the organization. This includes overseeing production processes, quality control, supply chain management, regulatory compliance, and ensuring the seamless integration of Technology with Manufacturing to meet Company goals. The Site Lead ensures that all such activities are performed on time and within budget while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. As a Site Lead, the individual must coordinate with other functions and customers to ensure we meet contractual commitments. The Site Lead will also drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, optimize resource utilization, and support the commercialization of innovative biotechnology products.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the cross-functional DBAL team, which includes Operations, Quality, and Technology
- Supervise and coordinate the production of biotechnology products, ensuring adherence to established schedules and quality standards
- Develop strong relationships and effectively liaise with Technology to ensure processes are appropriate for customer delivery expectations and to resolve issues without impacts to business operations
- Implement and ensure best practices for (1) operational efficiency by optimizing workflows, reducing waste, and improving throughput across processes, (2) product quality by implementing lean manufacturing techniques
- Work closely with Operations, Technology, Product, and Sales teams to timely troubleshoot issues, resolve bottlenecks, ensure that production targets are met, and effectively address customer inquiries, comments, and feedback
- Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance schedules
- Manage inventory to meet production and delivery schedules
- Avoid excess stock to optimize working capital and implement best practices for cost reduction
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and reviews to maintain compliance with contract requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and other relevant regulatory standards
- Oversee and manage the end-to-end supply chain, from raw material procurement to product distribution
- Implement and enforce safety training programs to minimize workplace accidents and ensure the well-being of staff
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to operational efficiency, quality, timelines and compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to workplace safety protocols and environmental regulations
- Manage waste disposal and ensure environmental sustainability practices are followed
- Provide regular reports to senior management on production performance, operational technical, and compliance challenges, and progress on key projects
- Identify and timely escalation to Company Leadership of potential risks to operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, or product quality, and develop mitigation strategies
- Lead crisis management efforts in the event of operational disruptions, product recalls, or safety concerns, with appropriate input from cross-functional teams, and drive compliant solutions
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or other related field is required; an advanced degree is a plus.
Experience: 10+ years of related experience required, including several years in a leadership role; Certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Six Sigma Black Belt, or Lean Manufacturing certifications are preferred.
Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of microbiology concepts and techniques involved in the commercial application of BSL-2-level pathogens
- Experience in cell culture (including working with adherent and non-adherent mammalian cells, preparing master and working banks, and experience with cryopreservation techniques is a plus)
- Must have knowledge of Database software, Design software, Internet software, and MS Office software, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of stability testing, batch record review, and release criteria for biotech products
- Familiarity with analytical instrumentation and systems used for testing and quality assurance in biotechnology and BSL-2 laboratory environments
- Hands-on knowledge of ISO quality systems and good laboratory manufacturing practices
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate effectively

The compensation for this position ranges from $81,000.00 - $189,000.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills, job-related knowledge, and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
