About the Role

The Therapeutic Child and Family Advocate works under the direction of the Therapeutic Service Manager and provides specialist therapeutic intervention for children, young people and their families impacted by trauma. The Therapeutic Child and Family Advocate role requires a high level of skill and experience in providing evidence based therapeutic interventions to children, young people and their families that have experienced trauma. This position will also be expected to contribute to a place-based approach network in stakeholder engagement, and community development.

The Therapeutic Child and Family Advocate role provides therapeutic support to children, young people and families experiencing adverse childhood experiences, and complex trauma. This role is responsible for conducting thorough intake and assessment processes to identify each child’s unique needs and delivering evidence-based interventions that promote healing, resilience, and emotional well-being. Guided by best practice frameworks and program fidelity requirements, the Therapeutic Child and Family Advocate maintains high professional standards, contributes to consistent service quality, and plays a crucial role in fostering hope and long-term positive outcomes for children and their families.

This role is offered on a full time (Monday-Friday), role on a permanent basis. We are looking to fill 2 positions at our Rockingham and Armadale locations.

The expected start date for this position will be as soon as possible, we will be reviewing candidates on an ongoing basis.

If you would be keen to join us, we are now seeking a passionate and committed professional to join our team who can:

• Provide specialist therapeutic interventions for children, young people and their families impacted by trauma.

• Apply a range of interventions tailored to the developmental needs of children to support their emotional understanding and regulation.

• Plan and facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational group programs and workshops for children and families, aligned to identified needs and service priorities.

The successful candidate for this role will hold:

• Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or other relevant field or continuing education and training in evidence-based practices.

• Demonstrated experience of working with therapeutic models of practice.

• Demonstrated applied knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed practice as it relates to child development, adverse childhood experiences.

• Ability to build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders.

• Evidenced understanding and practice knowledge of the neurobiological, social, emotional and developmental impacts of trauma.

• Strong teamwork ethos while also being able to demonstrate the capacity to work independently in the delivery of a specialist service to children, young people, and their families.

• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to culturally safe and inclusive practice, with an understanding of working with Aboriginal children and families, including an awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal culture, and an understanding of the impacts of historical and intergenerational trauma.
