Job Description
Job Title: Assistant Manager – Market & Liquidity Risk Department: Risk Management Department Reporting to: Deputy Head – Wholesale Banking Risk/ Head of Wholesale Banking RiskMain Role (Overall Accountability)
To support the Market Risk team in the monitoring of Market, Liquidity and Investment risks in the bank. The role includes reviewing country and counterparty bank’s credit proposals, risk assessment of the investment proposals and ensuring risk appetite is adhered from both internal and regulatory perspective. It involves regular monitoring of the limits such as dealer, counterparty, country, stop loss and other risk parameters, and adherence to the risk framework as governed by the Risk and other policies. Close coordination will be required in terms of monitoring risks across the conventional, Islamic and International branches.
Principal Accountabilities
- Evaluate and mitigate risks associated with investments to protect capital and optimize returns. The investment proposals will be relating to different asset classes such as Equity, Bonds, Sukuks, Funds and Private Equities.
- Evaluate and mitigate risks associated with the credit proposals relating to Country and Counterparty banks to assess their credit worthiness.
- Financial analysis of the proposals to gauge the soundness of the instrument/ institution. Analyse carefully to select assets and securities that align with risk tolerance and long-term financial goals.
- Routine review of the credits and investments to ensure that they are within permitted risk appetite and regulatory norms
- Monitoring of the Market risk exposures arising from Treasury / Investment activities across various asset classes including Foreign Exchange, Money Market, Fixed income, Funds, Equities, and Derivatives.
- Monitor and escalate stop loss breaches for the bank’s proprietary investments.
- Assist in the preparation of regular risk reports to present to the Management and Regulators.
- Support stress testing and scenario analysis for the Trading and Banking book.
- Generate monthly monitoring reports for the ALCO.
- Assist in any additional tasks to be executed by the unit.
Personnel Specifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, Economics, Mathes, or a related field.
- Understanding of financial products (Foreign Exchange, Money Market, Equities, Bonds, and Derivatives).
- Experience in reviewing the credit and investment proposals.
- Positive attitude towards learning and taking up challenges.
- Familiarity with risk systems (e.g., Murex, Bloomberg) is a plus.
