Description
The Department of Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is actively seeking to fill a full-time clinical position for a licensed clinical psychologist with broad expertise in pediatric psychology. The psychologist would join the rapidly growing Division of Pediatric Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics at VUMC. The psychologist would work in the outpatient setting with subspecialty programs within Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Majority of effort would be dedicated to developing new psychological services in Pediatric Rheumatology, with effort also dedicated to expanding existing services in surgical clinics, including Cleft and Craniofacial, Spasticity, and Spina Bifida clinics. These programs are staffed by multi-disciplinary teams and serve a diverse population of patients and families in the Nashville and middle Tennessee area, as well as surrounding states. The psychologist will be integrated within these teams to provide brief assessment, consultation, and psychotherapy for patients and their families. Primary areas of need include coping with diagnosis and medical stressors, pain management, treatment adherence, procedural anxiety, parent-child communication around disease management, transition issues, and management of co-morbid mental health issues. This position also provides opportunity for the psychologist to collaborate with colleagues across various disciplines and medical teams, with the potential for involvement in research. Opportunites include collaboration with Vanderbilt's multi-disciplinary pain clinic and supporting the Comfort Ability Program, an evidence-based program that provides supports for children and adolescents with functional symptoms and/or chronic pain.
Qualifications
The psychologist will be appointed as a faculty member in the Division of Pediatric Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical center (open rank, depending on experience).
The ideal candidate for this position should have experience in utilizing evidence-based assessment and treatment within the pediatric integrated care context. The candidate should be comfortable working in a busy academic medical center, with patients and families from diverse backgrounds, and participating in multi-disciplinary care. The psychologist should also have experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families.
