JOB SUMMARY:Within the context of a client and family centred care model, and in accordance with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) standards of practice and clinical practice guidelines, provides respiratory care to assigned clients/patients both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the client/family. Consults, confers and collaborates with other health care providers. Demonstrates expertise and leadership in respiratory practice. Under minimal supervision performs pulmonary functions and technical procedures related to assisting physician with bronchoscopy, setting up equipment in labs, administering a variety of tests and monitoring client/patient responses. Prepares and maintains equipment. Maintains and advances clinical competence. Participates on designated Hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program. Successful completion of the Health Professionals Testing Canada Credentialing Exam. One years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesBroad knowledge of current respiratory theory and practice within a client/family centred model for care.Broad knowledge of the BCSRT clinical practice guidelines.Demonstrated ability to plan and implement plans of care in relation to client/family priorities.Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care, and to respond appropriately.Demonstrated ability to adjust to new and unexpected events.Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict situations.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary team.Demonstrated ability to communicate with and deal effectively with clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and staff of outside agencies.Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position.Demonstrated ability to use the department policy and procedure manual.Demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area.Demonstrated physical ability to carry out the duties of the job.Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care system.Ability to operate related equipment.Demonstrated skill in performing CPR.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
