JOB SUMMARY:Practices within the context of primary health care with a population health approach, within the vision and values of the Vancouver Coastal Health and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses. The Travel Clinic Nurse prepares and conducts clinics, provides information and immunization for recommended and required vaccinations and gives advice on travel health concerns including malaria protection, food and water precautions as well as other health related issues for clients traveling abroad. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, educational resources and other health care professionals/providers to achieve excellence in health services and education. QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Recent experience working in a travel clinic that includes experience providing immunizations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Immunization Competency Certificate (BCCDC). Valid B.C. driver's license. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage reimbursement is reimbursed.Knowledge & AbilitiesWorking knowledge of community health nursing theory and public practice within a primary health care and population health approach.Comprehensive knowledge of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for nursing. Working knowledge of normal growth and development, family theory, multicultural health practices, principles of health education/promotion, and determinants of health and community development practices.Demonstrated competence in immunization protocols and communicable disease.Demonstrated competence in mass immunizations campaigns.Working knowledge of facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution techniques, and demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.Working knowledge of harm reduction model.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to adjust to changing priorities within a fast paced clinic setting.Ability to critically read and utilize current health research.Ability to plan and conduct an immunization clinic.Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment.Ability to prioritize, work independently, and use a cooperative approach to program delivery.Demonstrated ability to counsel and teach clients and their families.Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through initiative and independence.Demonstrated ability to model and mentor new staff and students.Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
