About the Position
The Sr. Technical Project Manager is responsible for the delivery of Software Development and IT Project initiatives, covering areas such as New Product development, product enhancements, Integrations between various systems, internal/external initiatives as well as IT upgrades. The position requires direct expertise with customer facing projects/reporting and customer management. It also includes understanding technical approaches and how to translate it to the customers and key stakeholders. The Sr. Technical PM will need to have the expertise managing multiple simultaneous projects in conjunction with collaboration/coordination with Senior management, project stakeholders, development, QA, IT, other Project managers, other departments, and 3rd-party customers. The Sr. Technical Project Manager will manage multiple concurrent projects and will work with several different resource groups within the organization and with directly with our customers.
From initiation through to completion, the Sr. Technical Project Manager will be responsible for the creation of the project scope, schedule, milestones, risk register, change control, weekly status reports, lessons learned, escalation etc. with all applicable approvals and signoffs of all key deliverables. He/she will also be successful in identifying priorities and charged with successful execution of projects in terms of delivering on schedule, within budget and to the highest quality standards, all in accordance with the established business plan and PMO processes.
The ideal candidate will have the following expertise/experience:
• Be able to hit the ground running, a self-starter, understand tech talk and be able to translate to the customer and others
• Manage multiple client facing projects simultaneously, while optimizing changes to project scope and schedules daily
• Understand customer contracts and be able to align the deliverables to the project plans ensuring we are adhering to the contract terms and deliverables.
• Propel projects forward from beginning to end, creating efficiency and synergy
• Have experience working in a Project Management Office leveraging standards, templates, best practices and adding value to the PMO team through creativity and creating, maintaining processes to aid the team and the organization
• Proactively communicate with management, clients, internal resources on project timeline, status, and more
• Understands when and how to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines; able to respond promptly and efficiently to project adjustments and alterations to customers
• Create, prioritize, and maintain project schedules and deliveries on time
• Be able to successfully manage projects without getting in the weeds
• Manage day to day client relationships and communicate accurately and clearly to our client requests, revisions, etc.
• Assist with periodic program planning exercises like the annual operating plan and long-range planning
• Ensure roll-up of project information for program-level tracking and communication
• Identify opportunities for project-related process improvements within the program
IT Project Office/PMO
• Disseminate and demonstrate best practices from the corporate Project Management Office (PMO)
• Provide feedback on practices, procedures, and policies based on project experiences
• Act as a promoter of and mentor on project management standards and a change agent (i.e. PMBOK6, Agile, SCRUM)
Experience
• 10+ years direct work experience in client facing project management capacity with external customers/clients for solution implementation projects in the areas of application software development, infrastructure implementation, system integration and new product development
• Solid understanding of solution development life cycles, waterfall, agile, iterative, and incremental
• Experience in SaaS, COTS, new product development
• Strong proficiency with project management software, such as Microsoft Project
• Good communication skills including written, oral, presentation (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Exceptional attention to detail, multi-tasker with organizational skills including tool utilization (spreadsheets, project management tools)
• Strong interpersonal soft skills to have the ability to elicit/influence cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments
Qualifications/Skills:
• Bachelors’ degree preferably in Business Administration or related
• At least 10+ years’ experience in project management with strong leadership skills and experience developing work-breakdown structures and project plans, most notably following PMI methodology and Agile Methodology
• At least 10 years of experience in software development systems applications with direct customer projects exposure and management
• Excellent client management skills and the ability to work with customers to develop and manage an implementation plan
• Demonstrated experience in translating customer business requirements into workable world class software solution
