Description

The Department of Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) seeks to recruit faculty members for its Mildred Stahlman Division of Neonatology.   The Division is currently comprised of 48 neonatologist and NICU hospitalist faculty members, supports an ACGME-approved Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship training program, and maintains a robust research program.  The Division is ranked by US News & World Report as one of the Top 25 Neonatology programs in the nation. Our growing Level IV NICU has 116 beds in Nashville, supporting nearly 6,000 deliveries per year. The primary driver of recruitment this year is growth which includes opening a new multidisciplinary unit for patients with Chronic Lung and Airway Diseases in spring of 2025. In addition to more standard work hours, we are open to considering candidates interested in nocturnist positions to service this growing Level IV NICU.  We also support satellite locations, including Level II and III nurseries across the state of Tennessee, creating a variety of clinical opportunities for interested candidates. We have a busy neonatal transport service that brings critically ill newborns to our Nashville campus from throughout the Southeast. A growing telehealth infrastructure supports several community Newborn Nurseries staffed by pediatricians and nurse practitioners.

Responsibilities of faculty in our Level IV setting include providing direct patient care in inpatient settings, medical education of students and trainees, and participation in clinical research and/or quality improvement.  Responsibilities of faculty positions in our off-site locations include providing direct patient care in inpatient settings and being available from home at night in accordance with the hospital medical staff by-laws.  We are not recruiting NICU Hospitalists (non-neonatologists) at present.

The Department of Pediatrics is committed to excellence in research, education, and patient care. The Department is home to approximately 500 dedicated faculty members and providers and consistently ranks in the top ten in NIH funding among U.S. medical schools, offering an exceptional work environment with the opportunity to perform superb multi-disciplinary care, education, and research. Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt is ranked in 10 out of 11 pediatric specialty programs in U.S. News and World Report’s 2024-2025 “Best Children’s Hospitals.”  The Children’s Hospital currently has 325 inpatient beds and is near completion of two additional floors which will result in more than 400 beds for the Children’s Hospital. Vanderbilt University Medical Center is located in the heart of Nashville, a thriving city of commerce, finance, healthcare, and music. Nashville is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.
