This job posting is for KIPP Memphis Sports Coach - Middle school Football.
The job is done for the purpose(s) of assisting the designing and implementing of the athletic program for the assigned sport in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations:
- Providing supervision of students during all aspects of the program.
- Serving as a positive role model to the student athletes and represents KIPP Memphis Public Schools in a well-respected manner.
- Upgrading his/her knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations consultation, etc.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Has thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by TSSAA and KIPP Memphis Public Schools and is responsible for its implementation.
- Understands the proper administrative chain of command and refers all student/parent requests or grievances through the proper channels.
- Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program.
- Follows TSSAA, league and sports rules and uses common sense in providing equal opportunities for opponents, as well as self.
- Performs duties assigned by the athletic director
- Attends in-district meetings and sports related clinics
- Attends and subscribes to professional organizations
COACHING RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE STUDENTS:
- To demonstrate the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
- Give constant attention to a student athlete’s grades and conduct.
- Be present at all practices, games and while traveling.
- Teach basic techniques and organize use of time well
- Provide assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant.
- Provide training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant.
- Understand the policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies.
- Direct student managers, student assistants and statisticians.
- Determine discipline, help delineate procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary and contacts parents.
- To foster a desire to win, an attitude of good sportsmanship, personal pride, and pride for their school and community.
- Shows enthusiasm for working with students and has a good rapport with them.
- Uses all possible ethical means of motivation. Serves always as an exemplary professional
EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES:
- Collect the cost of any equipment lost or not returned.
- Arrange for issuing and storing of equipment and submits to the head coach an annual inventory and current records concerning the same.
- Recommend to the budgetary items for next year in his/her area of the program.
- Monitor the equipment rooms and coaches’ offices and authorizes who may enter.
- Permit the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
- Examine the locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility.
- Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
- Secure all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty.
- Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Assess player’s skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and keeps the Athletic Director informed of the athletic performance of the students.
- Maintain a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering. (For both head coach and athletic director)
- Work within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach of that sport and assists with determining game strategy.
- Assist with supervising athletes during practices and competition.
- Attend all staff meetings and carry out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach.
- Model sport-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
- Arrive 15 minutes before, or if earlier time designated by coach, practice, contests and meetings to adequately prepare and remains long enough afterwards to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions.
- Help in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs. Attendance should be consistent.
- Never criticize, admonish, or argue with any staff member within ears or eyes of players or parents.
- Never leave practices, games, or any other contest where a student’s attendance is requested until the last student has left.
- Perform other such duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be requested by the head coach.
- Maintains appropriate rapport with players’ parents
- Maintains a positive relationship with interested segments of the community
- Assumes some of the responsibility of pre-game duties, arrives on time for meetings, etc.
- Maintains self-control, provides example of sportsmanlike conduct in his relationship with players, staff, officials and opponents
- Accepts responsibility for outcome of game, in victory or defeat, is able to congratulate or console he/her players, staff, and officials
- Remains after contest to help finish remaining tasks
- Is supportive of the program and cooperative with the head coach
- Is cooperative with other assistants
- Is enthusiastic for the sport itself
Requirements
Qualifications
Required
- One (1) or more years of previous coaching experience
- Has knowledge and background in the assigned sport
- A verifiable, good record of working with children
- A desire to serve our students and parents of our community with integrity and sincerity
OTHER TRAINING and SKILLS:
- First aid and CPR training required.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Other Qualifications:
Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization. Travel to KIPP Memphis campuses and various schools for games is required.
ADA Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and actively monitoring student behavior while teaching
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Must be able to adjust height, by bending or leaning, in order to coach children
- Must be able to facilitate games/practices by walking up and down stairs, running, and demonstrating athletic techniques
