The Pre-Health academic advisor in University College Academic Advisement is to make course recommendations and give academic advice and overall guidance to all assigned students so that they may progress successfully though the next stage of their academic career at Illinois State University. In addition, the Pre-Health advisor assists students throughout their time at ISU by disseminating current details about entrance exams and graduate school admissions practices, facilitates University communication with professional schools, participates in recruitment efforts, delivers developmental programming for current and prospective students, co-advises the pre-health registered student organizations, works closely with other campus professionals to achieve goals common goals and networks with professionals in the field within the state/country. The Pre-Health Advisor may also assist the Associate Director of Academic Enrichment in developing and delivering specific University College/IDS courses to prepare pre-health students in their chosen pathways.

No direct supervision duties.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$43,000 - $50,000

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree required (preferably in Education, College Student Personnel, or a related field).
2. A bachelor's degree requires at least 2 years of professional advising experience or demonstrated equivalent in a related field.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including making effective public presentations. Excellent interpersonal skills, including listening, problem-solving, and teamwork.
4. Ability to multi-task and produce quality work under deadlines; organizational skills; develop project timelines; demonstrate flexibility in a changing administrative model.
5. Ability to work with diverse populations of students, peers, and the public.
6. Working knowledge of essential office software (word processing, e-mail systems, spreadsheets, databases, etc.)
7. Must work independently without direct supervision and cooperatively within a group/staff with a learner-centered and service-oriented philosophy.
8. Evidence of a positive professional demeanor that contributes to a positive and fulfilling work environment. Evidence of an understanding of the issues facing today's college students as it impacts their academic choices.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master's Degree preferred (preferably in Education, College Student Personnel, or health professions related field).
2. Experience working with Pre-Health students or professionals
3. Full participation in professional development to be current with trends related to this work.
4. Supervision and training experience.
