About The Role
Teller County's Community Development Department is looking for an experienced, as needed, Electrical Inspector to inspect electrical installations for compliance with the County-adopted construction codes, primarily the National Electrical Code as amended by the Board of County Commissioners. This position is on an as-needed basis when the full-time inspectors are not available or at times of heavy inspection loads which are beyond the capacity of the full-time electrical inspection staff.
What You'll Do
(1) Perform field inspections of commercial, industrial, and residential electrical construction to ensure compliance with the building and electrical codes.
(2) Assist and advise the public in matters related to construction code requirements; meet (at the construction site, permit counter, or office) with contractors, architects, engineers and homeowner builders and other persons to answer questions or resolve non-compliance issues with reference to building codes.
(3) Maintain records of work performed.
(4) Prepare written reports regarding electrical inspections and codes.
(5) Keep abreast on current industry developments and changes to the electrical code to provide accurate information to contractors and other members of the public.
Requirements
Skills/Experience We're Looking For:
Knowledge of: local electrical codes and regulations; specifications and plans for electrical construction; principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Skilled in: use of basic computer software programs; understanding and applying pertinent laws, rules, regulations and policies; using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines; maintaining confidentiality; organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines and following up on assignments with minimum direction and supervision; applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks; to understanding, interpreting and communicating complicated policies, procedures and protocols; working in a deadline driven environment; interacting with all levels of internal and external professionals while developing strong productive relationships; designing strategies, analyzing results and making recommendations; organization and time management.
Ability to: communicate effectively in writing and verbally; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, other county departments, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public; maintain confidentiality and discretion; be a self-starter; successfully accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously while working independently or within a team environment; work with minimal supervision; interact with a variety of people, cultures, problems and circumstances; analyze and resolve problems involving several variables; understand and carry out written and oral instructions, giving close attention to detail and accuracy.
Experience/Education: High school diploma or equivalent; five (5) years of work-related experience (in industrial, commercial, and/or residential construction and/or inspection of electrical systems); any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.
Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: Must be able to write and read; able to hear, see and speak. Must be able to communicate with contractors and homeowners both verbally and in writing; safely operate a vehicle and use test equipment related to the field.
Physical Effort/Dexterity: This position works primarily in the field requiring moderate physical exertion and the normal range of motion and dexterity; ability to drive a vehicle, climb ladders, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand and sit (sometimes for extended periods of time); ability to lift, pull or drag up to 50 lbs. for short periods of time.
Environmental Factors: Work is generally performed in outdoor conditions and may require exposure to adverse conditions; such conditions include dirt, noise, rain, snow, and extremes of temperatures.
Work Schedule/Characteristics: As needed basis only.
License/Certification Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license; possession of current Colorado State Residential Wireman, Journeyman, or Master Electrician’s License.

Salary range: $34.01 - $35.71 / hour
Status: Part-time, as needed, Non-Exempt
