The Payroll Specialist III is responsible for ensuring accurate processing and recording of First Tech’s payroll, providing timely and accurate financial information, and participating in daily data entry for payroll processing. Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the processing of bi-weekly and incentive/commission payrolls
- Manage relationship with accounting including monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reconciliation
- Identify and implement improvements to workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately, timely and efficiently
- Audit payroll prior to transmission and review generated reports for completeness and accuracy; ensure reports are delivered to appropriate internal partners
- Serve as subject matter expert for proper taxation of employer paid benefits
- Respond to internal and external audit requests as needed
- Advise and lead the processing of correct garnishment calculations and ongoing compliance with state guidelines
- Manage time and attendance processing in payroll interface and educate leaders and employees on best practices
- Lead the processing of accurate and timely year-end reporting Develop ad hoc financial and operational payroll and timekeeping reporting as needed
- Manage controls and process for manual and final checks
- Assist others with and respond to complex payroll/human resource inquiries from employees
- Review and approve new hire candidates profile record
- Manage annual payroll and holiday calendars
- Ensure compliance with new hire I9 verification of employment as well as reverification for expiring work authorizations
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Business Administration or other related fields of study)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience processing multi-state payroll with at least 3 years' experience administering state and federal taxes
- Strong attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and ability to prioritize and multi-task independently
- High degree of professionalism with a focus on confidentiality
- Previous team lead experience strongly preferred
- Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Working knowledge of state and federal laws as they relate to payroll and general employment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS software such as UKG and Cognos B
- Certification/License: PHR/SPHR or CPP preferred
