Job Description:
About the role:
Dow Jones is seeking a strategic and results-driven VP of Finance to lead financial planning and analysis for our consumer subscription revenue business. This leader will be a core business partner to the Marketing and Subscription Strategy teams, responsible for driving financial oversight of pricing, packaging, customer acquisition, retention, and monetization for our suite of digital and print subscription products across The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, MarketWatch, and Investor’s Business Daily.
This role demands a finance leader with direct experience in the subscription-based media industry. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of the economics of recurring revenue models, including hands-on expertise with key metrics such as lifetime value (LTV), customer acquisition cost (CAC), churn, ARPU, and retention dynamics. The candidate must have a track record of supporting digital growth initiatives in a fast-paced, data-driven media or content business. You will report to the SVP, FP&A.
You Will:
Strategic Finance Partnership
Act as the primary finance partner to the Marketing leadership team.
Guide revenue growth strategies with financial rigor, including LTV/CAC optimization, cohort analysis, and subscriber churn modeling.
Drive investment prioritization across acquisition channels, partner deals, and retention programs.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
Lead the end-to-end financial planning process (budget, forecast, long-range plan) for subscription revenue.
Build robust forecasting models that incorporate key subscription KPIs: ARPU, churn, conversion rate, trials, engagement, etc.
Deliver actionable insights through recurring dashboards, variance analyses, and KPI deep-dives.
Pricing & Packaging
Evaluate pricing strategies across digital subscription tiers, bundles, trials, and promotional offers.
Partner with Product and Consumer Insights to run scenario modeling and elasticity testing.
Business Case Development & Operational Support
Lead financial diligence and modeling for new product launches, distribution partnerships, and international expansion.
Provide finance leadership for GTM planning cycles and campaign performance reviews.
Support board materials, investor relations inputs, and ad hoc executive-level presentations.
You Have:
15+ years of progressive experience in finance roles, ideally with a focus on GTM, subscriptions, or digital revenue.
Strong background in the media, streaming, SaaS, or DTC subscription businesses.
Exceptional financial modeling, analytical thinking, and business storytelling skills.
Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders at senior levels.
Deep understanding of metrics such as LTV, CAC, ARPU, churn, and payback periods.
Experience managing or mentoring high-performing finance teams.
