Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Sr. Director of Information Services, the Sr. Desktop Specialist is responsible for providing advanced technical support for hardware, software, and end-user systems across the organization. This role includes developing support standards, identifying areas for improvement, and helping shape the organization’s approach to device management and endpoint security. The position partners with the Sr. Director of IS and the Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) to align desktop support operations with broader IT goals. This positions also manages the organization’s SharePoint Intranet site and owns key automation workflows using Power Automate. The role serves as the technical lead for internal IT operations.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a practitioner who has advanced experience in the Microsoft Suite, and hardware, software, and application experiences. Someone who can identify system issues and troubleshoot with little to no support. Someone who is customer service orientated and is able to provide prompt and effective support to end users will be successful in this role.
Additionally, as a Sr. Specialist, you are expected to support with high level planning, training, developing and sourcing strategies that will support the successful execution of IT systems into the workforce. Therefore, collaboration is key.

Responsibilities
To be successful, the following are essential duties and responsibilities of this position:
- Leads the setup, configuration, and deployment of desktops, laptops, peripherals, and related equipment, including tracking hardware assignments and changes. Troubleshoots and resolves hardware, software, and application issues, documents solutions, and identifies patterns to improve support processes.
- Monitors desktop systems and user support trends to proactively address recurring problems and reduce future disruptions.
- Manages workload through the help desk ticketing system, ensuring timely follow- up, documentation, and resolution of assigned issues.
- Oversees mobile device management using MDM tools, including enrollment, configuration, and compliance with council standards.
- Provides technical setup and support for organizational meetings and events, including AV and conference room equipment.
- Tests software and system changes before deployment to minimize user impact and ensure compatibility with existing systems.
- Maintains endpoint security standards across all devices, including antivirus, encryption, and patch management, in coordination with the MSSP.
- Supports ongoing security awareness initiatives, including follow-up with users after phishing simulations and helping coordinate training reminders.
- Helps enforce IT and security policies across user devices, escalating compliance issues as needed.
- Coordinates with the MSP and other vendors to resolve support issues that require external troubleshooting or escalation.
- Manages vendor relationships for hardware repair, equipment needs, and warranty- related service requests.
- Maintains inventory of IT assets and software licenses, recovering and reallocating licenses from decommissioned devices.
- Keeps IT documentation up to date, including how-to guides, internal procedures, and user onboarding materials.
- Owns and manages the organization’s Power Automate workflows and related automation tools, including making updates and supporting staff questions.
- Supports SharePoint site management and collaborates on improvements or new features.
- Recommends tools or process improvements that can improve system reliability or make support more efficient.
- Partners with the IS leadership team to plan, develop, and strategize systems to support an efficient workforce.
- Train and provide learning opportunities for all staff regarding IT/IS infrastructure including trends and research.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
