About the Role:Comcast Technology and Product Experience (TPX) is seeking a Principal Android Engineer to join our Connected Living Client Application Engineering team. This group is responsible for the development of the native Android and iOS Xfinity application, the one stop for our residential customers to view their bill, manage their cloud enabled gateway and smart home devices, troubleshoot their network, and set up parental controls and advanced security. In this role, you will be technical leader on the Connectivity Customer Experience team where you will collaborate with stakeholders to improve existing features, write hands on code for mobile components and libraries, lead and drive conversations on technical architecture, and influence the Xfinity Android app architecture. You must be able to pick up new technologies quickly, be a strong team player, and rapidly adapt to changing business and customer demands. The ideal candidate will have experience building native Android applications that rely on multiple web services and operate at a scale of millions of users.
Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Leadership
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of core Android libraries and components.
- Drive architectural decisions and advocate for scalable, maintainable solutions.
- Guide adoption of engineering best practices across squads and guilds.
- Conduct technical reviews and present solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
Collaboration & Mentorship
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering growth and technical excellence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, UX, and API to deliver cohesive user experiences.
- Influence Android development standards and practices across Connected Living.
- Partner with engineering leaders to build high-performing, inclusive teams.
Development & Innovation
- Write clean, well-tested Kotlin code using modern Android frameworks (Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, MVVM).
- Integrate with RESTful APIs and internal mobile libraries.
- Identify long-term technical opportunities and develop roadmaps for innovation.
- Lead or contribute to proof-of-concept (POC) and proof-of-technology (POT) initiatives.
DevOps & Quality
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines and ensure high code quality through automated testing.
- Monitor performance and participate in incident management.
- Ensure accessibility, localization, and internationalization compliance.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 5+ years of experience developing native Android applications in Kotlin.
- 3+ years as a technical lead for large-scale consumer-facing apps (100K+ downloads).
- Experience with Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, and MVVM architecture.
- Strong understanding of Android fundamentals: Activities, Services, Broadcast Receivers, etc.
- Experience with RESTful services, caching strategies, and API design.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Fastlane, GitHub Actions) and DevOps practices.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with GraphQL, VPN, WiFi, LTE, and Bluetooth.
- Knowledge of OpenAPI Specification and microservices architecture.
- Experience with IoT platforms (e.g., SmartThings, AWS IoT).
- Passion for innovation, diversity, and building inclusive engineering cultures.
