As a Tier 2 IT Support Specialist, you’ll deliver advanced technical and troubleshooting services in either Desktop or Audio-Visual support across the University, becoming a trusted partner to clients and a key link between ITS and the people it serves.

In this dynamic role, clear communication and strong problem-solving skills will be essential to maintaining exceptional customer satisfaction. Based at the Toowoomba Regional Clinical Unit within the Rural Clinical School, you'll enjoy the opportunity to work in a supportive, purpose-driven environment—one where your contributions help drive innovation and connectivity in regional healthcare education. Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide advanced technical support for hardware, software, and audio-visual systems, offering remote and on-site assistance, resolving complex issues, and acting as the first point of escalation for Tier 2 support.

  • Use modern IT tools and deployment technologies to support Microsoft, Apple, and AV platforms; manage identity, access, network services, and perform Tier 2-level changes within directory services and related systems.

  • Deliver high-quality customer service by applying best practices, maintaining accurate service records, managing IT assets, contributing to documentation and knowledge bases, and responding to local business needs.

  • Participate in team collaboration, mentoring, and project work; support non-centrally managed facilities, advise on IT procurement, and uphold cybersecurity compliance in line with UQ policies and standards.

This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW Level 6.

About You

  • Proven experience supporting and managing Windows, Linux, macOS, or enterprise-grade audio-visual systems using appropriate management tools.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows infrastructure, including Active Directory, Group Policy, and Mobile Device Management solutions, or equivalent AV systems in a tertiary setting.

  • Skilled in delivering both remote and on-site technical support, including for mobile technologies.

  • Solid understanding of IT and data security principles and practices.

  • Effective communication and documentation skills, with the ability to interpret client needs and clearly convey technical information.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, personal initiative, and experience mentoring team members.

  • Proven capacity to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate in distributed teams.

  • Experience contributing to IT projects and a valid Class C Driver’s Licence.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, criminal check.
